Thats what i want! I wish my horse was fizzy sometimes.

My vet suggested giving her a small bit to increase her energy a few hours before i ride but im paranoid about her weight and dont want to give her anything that is too calorific.

Energy and calories are the same thing..... Oats are very unbalanced in vits and mins.......... don't do horses any good fed long term unless correctly balanced...... shouldn't be fed without high levels of fibre...........

Yep agree with Merry Maker, try something like spillers instanct energy mix/cubes. Whole bruised crushed oats do contain fibre in the hulls.

Oats are actually a good high fibre feed. If you looked at the fibre level on a bag of oats vs a bag of nuts, you will see they contain more fibre. Unless they are naked oats and the husk has been removed. They are fattening and provide energy. As previous people have said, they make some horses silly. You wouldn't want to feed just oats because there would be some missing minerals and vitamins. In the winter I sometimes add a 1lb of oats to cheer her up and make her eat her boring chaff type feed. Most horses really like the taste.

It does not make my TB silly.

We used to feed the carriage horses oats, it was like making a magic potion all the other stuff we added to "balence" it out nutritionally. Worked tho, was just a pain in the ass so we switched to mix which, ironically, we still have to balence out because one gets twice the recomended amount due to his type and workload (been checked out) and the others don't get enough of it to get right vits!
