My poor horse has very knobbily legs atm.

She's only rising 7 but picks up splints just playing in the field! I never ever EVER do fast work or jumping on hard ground, nor do I hammer her over jumps.

I'm so careful with her legs.

So are all these splints going to have a long term effect, like the fact that she keeps throwing splints, does it mean she'll have weaker legs when she's older?

at one point all our horses had splints, never bothered any of them at any time. Jake has one the size of a golf ball on his near fore, he's 4, and so far it hasn't bothered him and he's getting to propper work levels now.

Have you had the vet out.Mine has been very lame and sometimes its related to suspensory ligament. The splints need to be treated like a hair line fracture if they are lame. Rest cold hosing and danilon .Just recovered from splint on sat on sunday mare kicked him in the same leg and its reactivated.Sometimes its down to concussion and conformation.Might be a idea to get it checked out if they keep reacurring. The knobbly bits are calcium deposits which build up when repairing. Can you restrict the turnout prevention is better than cure.

Does sound a bit odd that she has so many without strenuous work. I would consult a vet or nutritionist, to see if there's any supplement which might help her. It may be that being a mare, she suffers from calcium resorption problems, which is related to hormones (a bit vague, as endocrinology not my forte!). Does she have bad oestrus, by any chance?

We had this odd sort of physio sort of herb sort of everything women see her the other day, for her muscles, and she was fiddling with her backs and she said 1 of her ovaries wasn't full mature.

She's never been lame on any of them. I can't really restrict turnout as my horses are out with a 18hh moody gelding and tbh they need space to get away from him as he can be very aggresive!

I was planning on ringing my vets this afternoon to ask..Thanks.
