Are Sprenger bits worth the extra cost? Or not?

I am comparing between NS and Sprenger and there's a huge difference in price even for a fairly simple snaffle so my question is, is there a good reason why? Or am I just being asked to pay extra for the 'name'?

A very lovely person bought me a Sprenger for Christmas - It was around £150 for a Full Cheek!

To be entirely honest, it doesn't make much difference! If I bought it myself I would probably regret it and have gone for the NS instead. Allthough, he does like the taste and is much more willing to open his mouth for it rather than a stainless bit.

I would trial both and see what difference it makes for your horse before you make a decision. :D

I'm using a NS Virbindend ATM and have just bought a second hand Sprenger Dynamic RS KK Ultra, so guess I will be able to compare shortly! I was just looking at the RRP and thinking Cripes  at the price of some of the Sprengers. Are they really worth all that extra!!!

I love my Sprenger bit, it has made a huge difference to my horse's way of going. I was lucky enough to win mine in the Horse Magazine January giveaway though so it didn't actually cost me anything :)

IMO yes, I don't use anything else now.

This.

The NS bits just aren't as nice quality, and the horses I've ridden in them have not salivated and relaxed their jaws as much. As always correct schooling will make the biggest difference but it helps to have good tools.

If you think about how many times you will ride in the bit over a year the cost is relatively little in comparison to what we spend on other horse kit, feed etc. But the best thing would be to try the bits before you buy or get a second hand one off ebay.

I've got both...and I have to say it's horse dependent... I would also say, for mine at least, the shape and action of the bit has far more impact than whether it is Sprenger or NS. My NS training bit works on more horses than my Sprenger and I put it down to the curvature in the bit bars rather than the material its made from. Both are far superior to stainless steel though, which I rarely use now, other than to try the action of the bit before buying it as a NS or Sprenger version!

Ive both and Sprenger are better quality, as in dont seem to mark as much with bite marks etc but I wouldnt say they made much difference at all to the way my horse goes

I tried both on my boy and and while he was better in the NS it is the Hippus that really made a difference to his way of going I think bits are trial and error with each individual horse rather than one kind suits all unfortunately it can be a pricey time trying!

most companies offer 30 day trails on the dearer bits or have a wrod at your tack shop they usually let you try out bits for a while if you are a regular good luck

I love my KK bought it off ebay as certainly wouldnt pay over £100 for it! Its a bit i will always keep as i believe i could put it in any horses mouth as its a good allround bit.
