Going to buy a horse lorry, but today I heard that all horse lorry law's are changing next year. And that they will need a lorry tacho graft!! is this right!!! And the tax band..... what else should any one no before they buy a lorry

Not heard of any changes recently. As far as I am aware private lorries(under 7.5ton) do not require tacho's.
Regarding tax, That is not due to change according to the DVLA, but I await a more knowledgeable update!!

Newer lorries, even if private, do indeed require a tachograph.

In NI they are just introducing a new law which means that anyone using an under 7.5t lorry in connection with a business will require an Operators Licence - even if they only transport their own animals or just have advertising on the lorry, or if the lorry appears in their accounts. Don't know if this will apply to the rest of the UK though.

There is a new law about mirrors on 3.5 ton upward on post 2000 lorrys you will need to fit new and additional near side wide angle ones,, another law to join the one about speed limiters, comes from our helpfull membership of the EU dont know of anything else coming out, but like the old idea that says if you put a infinate number of monkeys in a room with typewriters thay will compose a work of shakespere!! i'm sure the ever increasing army of pen pushers will dream up lots more unessasary rules for us ,anyone fancy moving to a commonwealth country ???:

Oh should have mentioned if you are in the london area you will need a LEZ compliant lorry (EURO 3 or better emissions) if you venture inside the M25 most post 2001 will be ok until 2012, some older ones will pass a VOSA test think leyland and some mercedes will, others may need a exhaust mod (expensive)... the taco needs to be used if your using the lorry for bussiness on upto 7.5 ton or always if its over 7.5 even for private use!!! Hope this helps
