Hi
I am a tall rider, 5'11 and currently weigh 16stone. I am trying to lose some weight, but I'm a size 16 so by no means the roundest rider I've ever seen.
However I desperately want to get back in the saddle and am struggling to find anything big enough to ride.
Most riding schools have weight limits of 13 stone, which I can understand, having worked in a riding school I've seen how taxing the work can be without carrying heavy weights. So I am unable to get lessons anywhere to iron out my rusty bits.
Ideally I would like to get a horse to share, something 16hh plus with a bit of bone obviously, hunter type.
Am I being unrealistic thinking that there is a horse like this out there?
I owned an ex-racehorse before uni, when I was admittedly a bit lighter, but I was still close to 14 stone then, and although he was a typical 17hh chaser type he was pure thoroughbred and he carried me quite happily out hunting.
Ive ridden since I was a child and used to teach in a riding school up till uni, so have ridden various types of horses, therefore am not like the dead weight of a beginner.
Are horse owners willing to take this into consideration? Or am I likely to always get dismissed at too heavy on the numbers?
