im just wondering as i am just getting calls from numpties, or the ppl who come out to try my pony talk the talk but are either completely clueless about their own ability or are just not really that interested, including a girl answering a call about another horse whilst riding mine
 
i've had the same problem, i had this one girl who said she was very experienced and has bsja'ed... she took my 17.2hh ISH show jumper up to a 1'6ft cross pole (no joke) and about a stride out she pulled him in the mouth and her hands went above her head and he jumped on the jump, then she turned around to me that she didnt think he was right for her?!?!?!? i was like WHAT i wouldnt want you to ride a bloody donkey let alone my horse anyway!
 
im desperately trying to find sharers for mine as im pregnant and cant ride atm, maybe its just my hormones, but some of the ppl who have turned up have made me want to cry, i have a 17hh gelding as well and one girl came looked at him said oh hes really big and wouldnt get on him im really not sure how big she expected him to be?, i dont want them away from the yard they are on because i have had a really bad experience doing that with my old pony (he went away a schoolmaster and came back a month later a nervous wreck who couldnt turn right or canter)
 
I've got one :D sorry for being smug, but I am lucky to have her for one of my boys, was considering finding someone to share with her so I can concentrate on just the one for a bit, but it seems it's harder to find them....

Move closer Rachiie ;) :D

Are there no friends of friends on your current yard that can suggest someone? If you want to PM me or post I'll happily ask at the yard tonight if anyone would be interested? Since I'm only in Whickham so not too far from you
 
I don't get why people overplay their ability with horses. It's just dangerous. When I was looking I underplayed my ability and, now I'm looking again, will do so the same.
 
I had one come to try my mare, she advertised as confident experienced rider, she was obviously a complete nervous novice, and my horse is so quiet, i told her if you cant ride this horse you want to give up :(
 
Me :D or at least I would like to think I am.

However I currently have a loan and I think im too far anyway.

Hope you find somebody suitable soon, it must be a nightmare trying to find the right person!
 
YES- I am one. I was found on newrider.com

Am experienced, reliable, old (33 LOL), own transport, yadda yadda, and have shared my 17hh hoss for 3 years. We do exist- keep trying!
 
It is a god darn mine field i have a few out on loan, and that is just as bad, i have never understood why people feel the need to bg themselves up when it comes to horse riding.
As with all new people i do a trial and sadly more i have sent on their way than, let have a horse on loan or share.
Well if any of you what a horse to share in herds/beds pm me, sorry for the post hijack
 
I feel exactly the same. Had a lady who wanted to share my boy as at the time work was taking over a wee bit and didn't have the time to ride, yet she couldn't tack up, skip out or even tighten a girth and showed no interest in learning (I mean, once I had done all that for her I may as well have ridden myself).

Work calmer now thank goodness but have broken my arm and still can't find anyone who would take him for a hack. Granted, I am 20 miles from the nearest town but why these days does no-one want a completely free ride on a fit, healthy, well behaved horse with no costs attached. When I was younger, I would muck/groom/clean tack all day to have a chance at a 20 minute sit on one of the horses, even cooling them down after training was a treat. Am I gettin old????
 
I'm a sharer. Hopefully a genuine one! And I have to say in my particular case the owner has more confidence in my abilities than I do!

It took a while to find both the sharers I've been involved with but both have worked very well for both horse, owner and sharer so far.

It can be done!
 
They are out there! I have found my sharer and she is lovely. I put an advert out but i also looked at the share wanted ads and contacted people. I also went into local riding centres and tack shops.

found my sharer as i putting my advert up in a local riding centre. we talked and she came to see him the next day and just clicked. been with us 2 months now and are getting on great.

Dont give up they are out there
 
This is why i've turned my pony away for the 6 months whilst i am broken. I know there are some good ones out there, after all many moons ago I was one! but i can't drive at present so going up and back is difficult, only to be let down many times by people who haul on the reins or let her get away with murder (give my pony an inch she'll take a mile!)
 
Tried finding one for Toffee the amount of people who used to ride, wants to get back in it! Toffee is a very forward Welsh not ideal for a novice which I put in the advert! Best one was "i know you say she has arthritis but would she be allowed the odd days jumping!" Didn't answer that one.
 
i'm one :D Just over a year now and it's been brilliant.
they are out there, just few and far between it seems, best way seems to be word of mouth though, that's how everyone I know has found theirs, and how I found mine too.
 
oh dont! I have a little pony for sale. In the ad it say NOT A NOVICE RIDE AS HE IS STILL GREEN AND CAN BE VERY SPOOKY AND FORWARD IN THE SCHOOL (perfect hack and on the ground) hes just a nervous baby.

So anyway someone turned up yesterday after sounding quite promising on the phone (or LYING in fact!lol!) and then said "will he be suitable for a beginner then, as daughter has only had 2 riding lessons!!!!"

Ummmm NO!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Why do it!!!!
 
me??? it's over a year now, lost count and i've outgrown her pony so she got me a bigger one... yes you're probably as confused as i was and still am to this day as to why she would ever do that but hey i have an amazing horse so i'm not complaining! i found an ad on preloved.co.uk and please do give under 18's a chance, you have no idea how hard it was for me to find something suitable in size as a the time i was 14 and 5ft10 and it was a nightmare! but under 18's are sometimes more capable than you think (so i've been told) and we're really not that bad, of course you'll get some numpties but its worth a try :) just remember to say to the parents that the ''child'' is responsible for themselves and you don't take responsibility, thats what my parents have been told and agreed to it, cuz afterall you don't want to babysit, you want a sharer. its suprising to hear what now friend thought about the idea before she saw me :) she thought i won't be able to get on her 15.2hh :) good luck!
 
I would like to think I am.

I'm dedicated, willing to do all jobs under the sun, will do more than is asked of me, pays on time, treats the horse exactly as the owner wants me to, follows all the rules, flexible if needs be and I work incredibly hard to have a good relationship with the owner, other liveries and, of course, the horse!

But many wouldn't let me near their horses...

I'm over the dreaded 12 stone (but only just), I can't maintain a consistant outline on most horses, I don't have the confidence to deal with more difficult animals, if I get nervous I hunch over and become quite unbalanced and I am more "effective" than "pretty" to watch.

Fortunately for me I already have the perfect happy hacking share, she isn't difficult, can easily carry my "weight" and the owner doesn't care if I won't ever make it to the olympics with my imperfect style ;) She knows I don't do anything to jepordise her horse's health or safety and for her that makes me perfect.

I have been there for nearly 2 years and shared a horse before that for 3 (she was sold on).
