I want to get Ella a nice "wicking" type rug, because it worries me when she's damp for any length of time (fussy mum). She's got a normal fleece, but it doesnt do a great job of drying her quicker, and my friend said that the Thermatex type rugs are brilliant for that. Are the genuine Thermatex rugs the best sort to get, or are the Mark Todd / Weatherbeeta copies equally as good?

original Thermatexes are VERY expensive but soooo worth it in my eyes, Ted has an imitation one and Marley has an original Thermatex and well if theyve come in to get out of the rain for a little bit if theyre both very wet, Marley is always dry quicker, they last forever so so worth it in my opinion and you can use them as underrugs in the very cold weather (such as this jan lol) or to travel in. LOVE THEM
next invesment for Ted methinks

A friend kindly gave me her second hand thermatex and although it has been patched up it is brilliant at drying George off and keeping him warm in the winter.

Yes, but WAY too warm for this weather, or in fact any time in the summer IMO. Bucas do a great cooler (I think it is bucas - saw it on a friend's horse when I was grooming for her earlier this season) and I want one of those for the summer and a thermatex for winter.

Yes, they also do a thin one for the summer, which can be used under thicker one for very very cold days.
Bucas ones are also good and they do two weights as well.

As someone else said, they are expensive but worth every penny. Chester has a third hand one and although it has been patched up in a couple of places, it is still going strong.

Yes yes yes. My first was bought in 1987 £30 !!! and is still working well today I have the winter weight and the summer one as well!!!!

Wow 1987 I thought mine was old 1994. It does look a bit tatty, but still works perfectly (or would if it wasn't sitting in a box awaiting my next beast). I sold all my other old rugs as they were a bit small, but kept the thermatex, good excuse to buy one for best!

They are very good, but a little too warm to wear in this weather.

If you buy one, get it a size smaller then what your horse would usually wear- they come up very big!

They are fab I have the original for winter use and the thin one for the summer. They are fab IMO for wicking moisture away. Ooh and their exercise sheet and leg wraps too

I'd buy the Weatherbeeta Thermo Cell any day instead of Thermatex....they don't stretch, wash well and fit beautifully. I found the Thermatex stretched at the wither, and also they don't do a combo version.
Thermo cell combo = £44.99 in DH sale, compared to £110 for Thermatex! Erm, no brainer! So I have two!

Thermatex are good but do NOT put on an itchy horse in the stable!! My horse decided he had an itchy butt a few months ago and literally in one night he had shredded the top of it

They rip REALLY well!
