Are these bad for horses or good?

From the Horslyx website:
Horslyx is Cooked - This cooking (thermal) process is exclusively used to manufacture Horslyx (and Crystalyx). This method is a patented process and involves the cooking of the base ingredients molasses and oil, crystallizing the sugar. As the mixture cools the vitamin, mineral and trace element package is added, along with high-pro Soya (and the extra ingredients for Respiratory, Mobility and Garlic Horslyx).

It also says that Horselyx is 33% sugar....
Hope that helps

I love them but have to withold them from Murphy before a show due to sticky brown marks on his grey coat. They are really good for keeping Mr T calm at night as he licks them and forgets that I've left. No problems with them, vet seems to think they are the better of some licks, esp as they are designed to dissolve at body temp unlike Likits which have in the past been cited at the cause of colics in horses that are rather overindulgent in the lick consumption

Smell divine, but dont bother having a lick!!!

They do love them but i would say they are better for an offered treat rather than free range.

Merlin hoiks great big chunks of his off at a time, scraping his teeth to get the most out. Only ever bought two.... slow learner that i am!!!

we have one, he has it if he's stressing out being shod, bathed ect. he only gets it for a little while, and only a few times a month. love the smell, hate the orange sticky goo! i have it all over my school uniform now D: i use it more as a treat then anything else. he has a rock salt lick in his stable he can get to whenever he's in, we might be getting a mineral lick for the field too.

Mine has one 24/7 in the field (his brother who is in at night had it, but refused to touch it). He has got a permently brown nose, but its not going that fast.

I wouldn't buy another one, as I don't like the goo and you have to tip them out if it rains!

If they are 33% sugar then definitely to be avoided, particularly for anything likely to be prone to laminitis.

are there any suitable for fatties? Ie low sugar ones? If not someone should make some!

My mare has the mobility stable one with the holder that has a restrictor grille on it. She's a TB and is no more hyper with or without it. I have to admit

I've tried both Horselyx and Likits (err I mean I have actually tasted them lol!!)

and out of the two, the likits tasted basically like a sugary sweet whereas the horselyx didn't!!

Yeah, I just let mine have one very occassionally! Because like you say, they devour them so quickly! And it cant be particularily good for them. But then, they are meant to be used as treats only arent they?
