Interested to know what you think this is, my horse had a sarcoid in the same area which reduced in size and disappeared after I treated it last year. Now in its place are lots of small dry scab type things on his boy bits

Does it look like a different type? obviously I know the vet needs to see them but wanted to know if anyones seen it like this before>??

My boy has had similar in place of a sarcoid that was removed and they have not developed in to anything more. However he also has patches like this elsewhere (again haven't developed) but the vet did describe them as sarcoid's. I don't really have an answer the more I read on the subject I just seem to get more confused and our Vet is very non-committal!

Sarcoid is a very overused term...as they are associated with a virus. I think a lot of horses just get the odd lumpy/warty bit and too many vets jump to the 'sarcoid' conclusion without thinking of what else it may be! I had a mare who had a similar looking one by her teat - it never grew, never ulcerated...that wasn't a sarcoid!

harry had exactly that on side of his sheath , for 3 years it did nothing then this year it grew to a sarcoid bout the size of a 50 p piece , i did have the vet look at it and he confirmed it but we decided to not treat it as it wasnt ulcerated or bothering him

Probably, my mums horse has loads of little bumps round his sheath that have never changed - so we've left well alone.
He did have one on his side near his girth that was frozen off by the vet when he was 8, but not until it became a certain size.
All these appeared between the ages of 5 & 9, apparently they grow in younger horses but can grow out of it I think.
Overall, the vet wanted to leave well alone unless they were going to become a problem. He's 14 now and we've had no changes for years.

if we're talking about the lump at the top left then i'd say yes.

does he have leg straps on? if so i'd take them off - they can stimulate growth which is what happened to my horse - he's just had his deep frozen for the 3rd time.

1st time they were banded
2nd time they were frozen and i was told to take leg straps off which i did
3rd time i had bought a rug which i couldnt take leg straps off and they came back

so now no leg straps for him! if they do come back i'll have to find a new theory, lol

i would be inclined to leave it as its not noticable. if it bleeds/grows/attracts flies then i would get it banded
