Again this morning I have just received another text that 9 coloured cobs have been stolen yesterday and 5 before that in Lichfield. I havent sent these on to my horsey buddies as general opinion seems to be that these are hoaxes. If this is the case where do these people get off in starting these rumours!! Unfortunately we may become complacent and not be on our guard for genuine horse thefts!

i have had the same message this morning, also my friend texted me to say she as had a message from police saying the red landcruiser as been seen in our area, she is a member of horsewatch so she gets email alerts, i am taking this seriously,

to be honest i was of the opinion that it was all scare mongering & hype , however there have been confirmed horse thefts not far from me (all coloured horses i believe )& a collegue has told me this morning that there have been reports on the national news , so i am thinking of it as a serious matter now

& i'm all too aware of how easily thiefs can strike after having my trailer stolen & tack room cleared out in a half hour interval in the middle of the day last year

dnt kno if this is to do with the same thing but.... a month ago my firends stables were burnt down she had 2 shed stables in a field luckly she had took her horses to the yard to let the field rest but in the early hours of the morning soon after they were on fire and had all tack and feed nicked. Iv only just clicked on it might be same ppl...!

Last night everybody locally was in a tizz as there had been a report that 8 horses had been stolen from about 4 miles away. It turns out that the police know nothing of any horse thefts locally despite there being car numbers quoted, etc. etc.

Somebody is being very naughty methinks

the news of 9 horses stolen in cannock and 5 in lichfield is not true , i phoned the staffordshire police myself and they said none had been stolen .

The texts may be hoax but there ARE thieves and steal to order via photos gangs operating out there. Thames Valley Police have confirmed this yesterday as have Thames Valley Horsewatch.

I too spoke with Staffs police yesterday and they have confirmed the following with me.

The text re stolen horses in Cannock and Lichfield is a HOAX.

The information re eastern european men photographing horses is correct and unfortnately true.

Obviously it still pays for us to be switched on!

Thanks for clarifying the "Lichfield Theft" is a hoax and the guys taking photos of horses to order is genuine. Whoever made up the rumour about the stolen horses must have too much time on their hands!! As mentioned we must remain vigilant but crying wolf too many times with these hoaxes would let the horse thieves have easy pickings!

these men were in my adjacent yard wed eve about 8pm taking photos also my friend took there photo on her phone and has e mailed to police we are in lancing west sussex

I'm in East Sussex so I will now be on my guard. Its just seems to be that two men are taking photos of horses up and down the country so it would be great to know only the TRUE facts!!

I'll bet that come the end of the summer, they'll release a book of all of the lovely horses they saw on their trip through the uk....
