Tomorrow I'm taking my non horsey daughter to see Wicked as a post GCSE exam treat. Staying overnight.
The bad bit is when I get back on Friday around lunchtime, I've then got to:
Collect my other two children from school at 3 and 4
Sedate and hog my cob for a show on Saturday
Wash and prepare him plus a pony for the same show Bandage, rug up and hood them
Collect my lorry (at 5) from where it has been resprayed 10 miles away
Drive lorry back to yard, fill up water tank, load up tack, put back all supplies we took out before respray, and fit new leisure battery to it.
Muck out mare and foal, prepare beds x 3
Feed them all and poo pick fields (this last bit might not happen...)
Collect my car from where lorry was resprayed and go home.
Eat
Sleep then be back at yard at 6.00am on Saturday.
I know we all have to do this if we have horses- are we mad!?

PS. All of the above WILL happen, so why am I expecting the most difficult bit will be getting daughter to clean tack so it can be put into lorry?!

OK - non horsey teenager can still help eg loading and carrying. Might cost you another treat but well worth it! As for the rest of it, you need PhD in Advance Planning lol and anyway, why do you need to sleep?????

LOL- need non horsey teenager to babysit non horsey 8 year old son! Forgot to say my mum rang earlier this evening asking if they could visit for a few hours on Friday. Er NO!

You're a horsey parent...and you have NON horsey children?
Are they the mads ones?!
All I wanted when i was young, was to have horsey parents.

I think you can cut out the sleep bit and it'll be fine

Haven't been to a show in years but I always used to be absolutely knackered at them as I'd had about 3 hours of broken sleep after being so excited

I was lucky, I'm the youngest of three children with a horsey mother. My brothers weren't horsey but one of them got jealous of me having a pony so my mum bought him a Shetland for £250, he quickly got bored so I got to look after her, she turned out to be a fantastic show pony and we still have her 16 years later!(Cassie in my siggie

Middle one makes up for the other two in her horsey obsession. I know what you mean though - how to get her and kids like her to really appreciate what she/they have is probably another post.

Yes we are. I've got a similar weekend with getting from Lymington in Hants to the North Somerset Showground which is just south of Bristol in time for a dressage test at 1045. There's a grey NF pony to get ready, he has to be plaited too as its Pony Club area dressage, and he only gets plaited once a year for this! Daughter will help, but I'll have to plait him as she's cack handed.

Any clever people who would care to hazard a guess as to best route and how long? I was planning Salisbury and then A36 then across country for the final bit . I thought 3 hours travelling should be enough?

Good luck with your planning coming to fruition (and at the show!)

Indeed..-that was my thought last weekend as a i bathed shettie, bathed/plaited my lad ....all ably assisted by my horsey 5 year old daughter ..we were up till 11pm tack cleaning bless her ...next moring at the show with my gelding, dashed back to yard to unpick his plaits and turn him out, quick change of gear, sort out daughter and pony and dash back to show with shettie for her classes...semi-horsey husband and completey non-horsey son turned up in afternoon to help muck out and poo-pick, then when i was completely knackered having been up at 6am and wanted to go home, hubbie decided to ride as its 'such a nice evening' ! Than back at work next day. Mad indeed. But wouldnt change it

It's good to know we're all as bad as each other , and yes - wouldn't have it any other way LOL!
Just going to pack for London trip....(message to self not to pack jods instead of trousers...)
Anyone going to Dorset Charity on Saturday? I'll be the one asleep in the lorry.
