Someone at my yard had the saddler out for a saddle fitting last week, horse turns out to be a wide fitting, saddler in question has I would say several hundred saddles in stock.

Owner wants a second hand saddle in a wide fitting pref Ideal of Albion, black, GP so surely not much to ask? Saddler says they don't have any in a wide so she will have to buy a NEW one to the tune of almost 1K!! She really can't afford that, do you think saddler may be taking her for a ride (sorry about the pun!) this is a respected company who normally have a pretty good reputation.....
Discuss!!

My boy is an extra wide and yes I found exactly that with saddlers! You can find them second hand but then I would want a saddler to check it.

There are quite a few places online with a selection of for sale ads, horsequest was a good one

I've got a black wide 17.5 Humphries & Swain saddle I'm going to be selling. Just bought an XW saddle off of Ebay and had it fitted by our saddler and it is fine.

They are out there, does sound like the saddler is trying it on a bit TBH.

Try saddlesdirect, they seem to have loads of W & MW saddles (mainly because I'm after a M)!!!

Shame you're so far away, I've got a black Ideal Event saddle I want to sell. It's a wide fit & been converted to Flair so it can be adjusted slightly.

I have just bought a brand new Wintec Wide for my porky gipsy cob with her humungus mummy tummy. It's a new design rather than a Wintec in a wide fitting. Specially designed for porky cob types. It is a fabulous fit, tremendously comfy for the rider, smart, 4 girth straps for additional stability and it comes with it's own little pack of 3 interchangeable gullets in shades of lilac that give you a little leeway should your porky ned develop some muscle ha ha. £349. Worth every penny and if it gets dirty, scrubbing brush and cold water! Yay!

What type/shape of horse is it, there are plenty of good saddles new for about £700, like the Ideal H&C mentioned above but will depend on how withery etc horse is. Thorowgood cob saddles are great too but she might not want synthetic.

I have a wide fit Albion K2 Jump. It did take me a while to find it. There were lots of mediums, but no wides around until I found mine and I snapped it up the same day it had been left in the shop!

I got a 6 month old Ideal H & C xwide for my girlie bargain at £450

.... Not convinced it will fit her now though as think its going to be too wide...

waiting for saddle fitter to come and check it

My secondhand Origins Grandee, which I bought through Nathaniel Underwood, was £575ish a few months back, and that's to fir my cob who was in a Wintec Wide with XXW tree. I had to wait about a week, which was basically the time it took Nathaniel to go through his stock of saddles and work out which one would fit.
