I have just been granted permission to erect stables and allow horses to be kept on 2 acres of grazing land owned by the council. On one side of the grazing are houses where the gardens back onto the land and on the other side are allotments.
Because I am unsure of how secure the stables and horses will be I was considering getting a guard dog to keep on site. Would this be allowed?

I was thinking about this on the way home last night. And a couple of things sprung to mind.

1. How would the dog be kept - ie tied up?
2. If not tied up - how would you stop it wandering?
3. How would you stand if the dog bit anyone?

I just can't see it working personally.

Not only will you have horses as a targe for trouble makers - you'll also have a dog as a target as well.

Doesn't really sound like a viable solution - and I personally would look elsewhere to keep my hores.

I think you would be in trouble if the dog bit someone even if they were up to no good and trespassing. Why not get friendly with some of the people who's gardens back onto the field and chat to people working on the allotments so they would then be more likely to keep an eye on the horses. Nothing like a nosy neighbour as security!

Yep I've got one of those, so know if horse was to get itself into trouble I would get a call. Fantastic
