Fascinating. I hear hounds chasing lion and bear on some of my hunts over these years in the wilderness. But the sound of that horn seemed to have awaken some primordial hunter in me long since slumbered?

I learned something today and want to learn more.

Excellent website, thanks for sharing.

Pleasure Tim!

Every season, 1st meet of the season, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I get a lump in my throat when I hear hounds and the huntsman's horn :D:D

spacefaer,

how clever you are!! Whilst listening to the sounds, my nose is doing overtime!! Something for the lazy summer months. Excellent.

Clever, clever lady!! Am on my own in the office so went through the full list which resulted in the dog howling and howling!! Got me very revved up until I remembered I'm 5.5 months pregnant and will be missing hunting on a pony until December.

Ugh!!

What a joy this hunting section is!

The lazy summer months? It's the pre-5am starts, and the 10pm finishes which I enjoy. As the frantic work of spring and summer slow down, lambing is over and done with, as is the foaling of mares, but then we have cubbing!!

The early mornings, the young entry, and on the dew laden ground, the scent (or not!). I don't ride, but as my boots kick through herbs and grass, so I am aware of my existence.

Alec.

Yes I did find a nice pony. One I sold 3 seasons ago. She is coming back to me in October for good so no more trawling the countryside for weeks on end. She is an absolute machine, jumps anything, will hunt all day on a handful of pony nuts and is totally sensible. The fact that i can't hold one side of her is irrelevant and she's only 15hh!!

Am hoping baby is a boy so it can go on the quad bike with OH. Not sure I'd be very good at leading it round and missing out if they go!!

It's something special, Alec - I love autumn hunting more than hunting tbh - it somehow feels like an honour to be there - maybe because I'm not always awake (truly not naturally an early morning person!!)

Glad to here it Caroline - we have a huge selection of fierce bits if you ever want to try some brakes - our guys don't hunt in snaffles :p

Oops - played one, set the dogs off, only just got everyone calmed down again(!)...

Luckily we are starting very soon but I am another who is not a morning person - there is a terrible conflict between the horror of getting up at 4.30am and the thrill of being back out hunting again... ;-)

Inspired by this - Does anyone know where to get a good ringtone?

My Computer wont talk to my phone - I lost the cable.
I would like a nice horn sound to alert me to a text message.

Thank you! :)

caroline, just cos he might be a boy doesn't mean he won't insist on coming out hunting with you!

is he/she your first? the first few years are a pain as far as hunting is concerned, but it is quite gratifying when they demand to be woken up at 5.30am to go cubbing!
