Of family members/friends around horses?

I find I get very protective over my mother when I'm working with Ned. I watch his back end more than usual and I let him get away with so much less.
She often comes to watch me in the school when I'm riding/training him (he's scared of going in the school, not only is Mother good for taking photos, but it's also incase he has another big spook and I fall off badly)

At shows I don't like her holding him as he can get pushy and swings around to look at things.

Does anyone else feel like this?


EDIT: I must add, she used to be horsey in her teens/20's, so she knows roughly what she's doing!!

My horse is completely child/dog/idiot proof but I have to make sure my family (much younger 1/2 brother and sister) understand that he is very much the exception! None of my family are horsey in the slightest but love T :)
 
No. My mum is more than capable of sticking up for herself. She has always had her own and worked with horses for years. She is even stricter with my horses than I am and I'm not particularly a push over. She is really my only family so despite the fact my two are idiotic, knobber youngsters I don't have to worry much, which is nice!

ETA: She can still strap a horse and lay a bed faster and better than me too :o
 
Hehe! Good to know others have such horsey mothers!

I think I'm protective because I assume she's fragile (Though, having survived cancer, perhaps she's stronger than I give her credit for?) I don't know, I just can't help it! Even when she came for a ride on the old plod (rip) I kept looking back "Are you ok? Is he being good? Would you like a little trot?"
She also gets adheasions(sp?) at the drop of a hat and we still don't know what sets it off.
