Are you rugging up at night?

my mare has had her rainsheet on the last two nights as heavy rain was forecast and she has only just reached a decent weight so really don't want her to get too cold and wet...pony is naked though!

Yep, Billy is out naked out during the day and has a rug on at night :)

Temp drops quite a lot at night here still :)

I also meant to add that it has taken nearly 2 months for Billy to look like a normal horse, I don't want him to loose it all at night!:)

Mine is in a lw during the day when he's out and a light waffle during the night in his stable. At the minute its chucking it down and windy, but when the rain and winds die down he'll be back out naked. Hes a tb x and have been desperately trying to put some weight on him- so don't want him to burn it all off in a week of rain!

ok now i feel evil lol,my lads been naked all winter and still is come rain or shine.though he is in at night ,no choice due to numptey drivers. But he hates wearing rugs, did a world record when i had him 5 rugs destroyed in 1 week gotta love him:D

lol devonshire dumpling - totally agree - gosh have been told am bad mum with baby as she is naked all year - yep -12 to - but you feed for weather so warm inside body. big lad as rugs in winter but I have downgraded weight this year loads and no neck covers and he as actually kept brill condition all winter - normally drops weight terribly - BIGGGGGG lesson learnt as in " less is more " :)

lol pinball - gosh your poor starving cold horse lol - looks damn fine to me he he he he :) my baby didnt loose weight over winter and only increase in her meagre diet was extra slice hay if snow on ground - horses esp natives are damn fine at keeping warm lol :) xxxxx

Rugs  mine are butt naked from the first show of spring, we mustn't forget they are horses, they have their own coats, we on the other hand don't and do occasionally need an extra layer.

I would prefer to be chilly than sweating, I get irritated as hell if im too warm and so does my old grumpy git, besides a little chill keeps the fat away.

My mare is wearing a 100g stable rug when in at night and if cold a 180g turnout in the field

This will continue until it stops getting lower figures (less than 5c) here at night :)

Buffy lives in at night all year round (No winter turnout and in the summer shes a fatty!!!).
She has been naked since mid march, and she was growing a full clip out. She still fat :D
