Are your horses getting enough water?

Its still -7 here at lunch time :(

Buds is prob drinking around half of what he usually drinks over night, and the trough in the field is icing back over however much we break it.

He is currently getting 3 x warm slurpy speedi beet meals a day. he is loving them (due to mostly thinking with his stomach :rolleyes:) and sucks all the water up :)

I am surprised however that i'm the only one on my yard faffing about insulating water buckets, towing hot water up to heat feeds and take the chill off his water...

Am I the only one?!

my horses are drinking even more! they have a 90 gallon water bucket out in the field each which are checked 3 times a day to make sure they havent iced over and they drank half of one of those each then in their stables they have a 60 gallon bucket each and they both drank 3/4 of it! they are getting a lot of hay though which is quite dry. i have been making them warm fast fibre and calm and condition although Rio didnt like that so he will go back to having it cold :o its -5 here this morning god knows what it got down to last night but they were both warm enough this morning although Rio was very grumpy!
 
If i use warm water in feeds i have a horse who wont stop sneezing!! Think the steam gets right up her nose!

I am adding extra water to make feed extra wet. I know of many horses who go down with colic from not drinking/ not being able to drink when things ice over, so am very aware of making sure this dosnt happen.
 
this weather makes it so hard. No chance of the tap working this morning so took down water in buckets from the house. Field waters are solid so juat had to add water on top. Had enough water left in her stable but have asked people on the yard to top up when the tap unfreezes - if not lots more buckets/containers full of water from the house. That and some hot to pour over her feeds :)
 
I'm making Fabio warm beet soups to make sure he's getting enough to drink. Leaving them buckets of warm water out too to stop it freezing as quickly (our autofill troughs are frozen solid!) and they're drinking everything we're putting out so think he's getting enough. :)
 
My auto trough in the field has frozen solid now, its lasts about 3 days of smashing the ice until there is no water left. So instead of blow torching the pipes (and prob setting myself on fire:rolleyes:) I put a big tubatrug in the field and filled it with my h20 to go. It is a pain in the ass but at least I can fill the h20 to go the night before and keep in the garage and put it at the bottom of the field where as the trough is right at the top.

They get beety breakfasts every morning to help the intake of fluids. Maybe I could give a bucket of beet at night too if it gets really bad but as they are very good doers I need to think of their waist line too:o

I found some fresh droppings this morning and stood on the to see if they have moisture in and they do, lots, so I am not too worried about them drinking atm.
