Well yesterdays areas were an experience. My horse has decided he is now far too talented for prelims & informed me of this by performing both piaffe and flying changes in the prelim! All in all test was a bit pants and only managed 62%! Which put me in 9th place - damn shame they only placed to 8th!

Onto the Novice, I honestly thought Chance really exceeded himself did a very nice forward test and worked into an even contact, which is usually our downfall (simple as it may seem.) Went to look at judges score and was really pleased to see the judge at B gave me 66%, unfortunately judge at C had other ideas and gave me 56%!!!! So, overall where did I come..... 9th!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst position to be in and I achieved it twice! Anyway got my sheet back as I wasnt too pleased with my 56%; feel free to have a good giggle at some of my comments they included:

For Med Trot: Horse lacks collection...
Med Canter: Hind legs together (I forgot to untie them before the test!)
Free walk: Only a few steps shown (I did marker to marker, particularly annoyed on this one as she gave me a 4, the other judge gave me an 8!)
Canter circle: 4 - Needs a better rhythm. (Bit harsh to give me a four on poor rhythm, particularly when I can't even remember loosing it; the other judge gave me an 7.)
Final comment: A very obedient pony (he's 15.2!) working in a consistent correct outline, but needs to be trained more correctly to gain more consistent marks! (I think thats called a paradox....)

Anyhow I hope you all gained some comfort from my pain

Lol at Lady_tia!

Cobden - I know its mental - I cant even make sense of half of them - I think Ill take it to my lesson this week, see what the instructor makes of it all!

perhaps that judge had a supply of gin in her car..she wasn't seeing what the other judge and you were feeling was she?
Our judge yesterday was spot on with her marks, I am rarely more than one or two out on my estimate after watching a test and yesterday I guessed one percent of a mark out to her final score.
When you see the same horse do a test week in week out you can normally be pretty accurate, but 10 marks difference is sad, what one judge wants so obviously isn't what the other does.
I can't believe she gave a 4 for a poor rhythm, that's really harsh..
i think this is one of those test you bin and forget..or pencil the marks you felt it should get next to the actual ones and make yourself feel better about it..Had there only been one judge calculate what your score would have been..

Cheers HH, apparently said judge has already been struck off the BD list once but has been reinstated!

Its nice when your mark reflects how the test looked and felt; I was impressed with the judging in the prelim (the kinder judge, judged me in both.) despite his disobedience which often seems to split judges opinions, both gave me exactly 62.1%; and whilst the breakdown was distributed slightly different, the comments were consistent with each other; a sign of good judging and satisfying as a competitor!

Im seriously considering chucking that sheet, Im selling the horse & yesterday was my last ever test on him, I dont want to look back in 10 years time & see that was our final effort & to think it was actually so poor!

I got the comment "Alderman's Trot" on a test once. Eventually got this translated from Edwardian English to modern English...

Judges always try to say something nice on the sheet, however much you tigger bounced around the arena hanging on for grim death. I know of 1 person who got the positive comment "Nice Jacket" on their test as it had been such a fiasco.

I was thought Aldermans had something to do with a war..... How very odd! I know what you mean about the judges comment thng, I once got "well sat" on the bottom of one of mine - but from memory we really did tigger bounce the entire way through that test!

(PS how did you and the Eland lodge crew get on?)

Apparently it means a choppy trot where the horse sets himself against you.

Does "well sat" mean "congrats for staying on"? ;-)

Fine yesterday thanks. Reports posted yesteday.

my final mark was appalling yesterday...i was perfectly straight up the centre line and then we did a square halt but she slid into the square halt and i got a 3!!!!! the judges comments were...slid into square halt!????? did that really deserve such a low mark??? this was only PN as well so not pure dressage did they need to be so harsh?

My two marks were quite different in the Prelim (still don't know how I got on in the Novice)... How can they see such different things. The collectives said it all to me, one gave me 8878 and the other 7667

yea, would certainly better off with one judge, when they're judging so differently! My friend came 10th in the novice, we're considering starting a petition to get placings to 10th

!

My marks have been similar, went through a purple patch about 2 months ago and since I seem to be able to do nothing right!

Did you not see the note on the back of the toilet door

It said if you left your number they would ring you with the results. Ive never seen that before.

Judges all get the same training so why are the marks so different?
confused.gif
Surely they should all be looking for the same thing. I understand that everyone likes different things but such a big difference in marks she be explained why.

i wouldnt worry about the comments - at Burrows Court yesterady i got:

8 - horse overbent (why give me an 8, and he wasnt overbent!)

6 - very nice (so why only a 6)

Apparently the judge was unwell

i did the area festival finals last year where you might think the jjudging would be decent no? apparently not - judge at C had me as the winner on 70%, judge at B had me on 62% way way down the class. Ended up on 66% and 4th only 5marks behind the winner - if judge at B had been looking at my test, not the one next door I might have won! She's judged us before though and never liked him. She gave us a 4 for a medium canter where judge at C gave us a 7! If anything I thought it was a bit quarters in and that should have been more visible to judge at C, so god knows what B judge was looking at! I will never understand them!

Just posted about my daughters music. She got 72.2% great but came 4th
Winner was one of the most tense tests I have ever seen and only got in the 50's last time we saw the test[ he was more shocked than anyone, he is a judge himself]2nd was lovely and 3rd was extremely tense. We had this judge once on our coloured and he did his worst test ever and jogged, changed leg and was like a bomb and he won. I really think judges should mark tension and evasion harshly but some seem to like it.

Lol how bizaar; I once wrote for a judge & when she started judging she said "Oh no I have forgotten my glasses, we'll just have to manage" If the horses made a mistake at the opposite end of the arena, she just didnt notice!

Aren't you glad that you pay £100 membership fee so you can get approved judges

Wow, that really is terrible, Id be well miffed if that happened at the final! This judge has judged me before a swell, she's never a massive fan of him but we do usually manage 60%! She hates my pony though, she always chucks me out & says he's lame, or says Ive had errors, when usually he's just being naughty!

Yes, I know what you mean; there have been several occasions were my very normal but very obedient horse has been put down the placings, but horses that are tense, but have flashier paces or just clearly more potential come higher...

In reference to music tests though, there is freqeuntly very strange judging; never done it at affil myself, but it always runs at the local EC, I never guess the winner correctly from watching tests!
