I know there are a lot of threads on here about building an arena on a budget .... but ... Can anyone recommend good contractors in Somerset, that won’t charge the earth! If anyone has done this, I would be really grateful if they would be willing to share their experience on where to and where not to make savings and how they managed their arena project. I am definitely not in the the financial league of the £35k plus arena companies!

Happy to PM you the name of the guy who did mine, he's based near Wells. He did all the groundwork and laid the surface for me. He fences too if you need. He isn't an expert and I did project manage, but he's really good at getting the drainage right. My total build cost was less than 17k for 20x40, good sand and a premium fibre

Thank you would be very grateful for this. We are close to Wells - between Pilton and North Wooten, so he would be ideal. If I could come in at under 17K I would be over the moon!

We started our arena a year ago, did a lot of the groundworks ourselves and then ran out of time (and energy) to finish it, so called in West Country Arenas to finish it off. They'd built an arena for us about 20 years ago and had done a great job so felt very confident to use them again. They've done another great job for us, so I definitely recommend.

I've just started Equestrian Ground Services because we discovered we could build our arena for free by using imported soil rather than the normal cut and fill method and now offer a brokerage service to help you do the same. If you have sloping ground you can save thousand and thousands. You can see me on FaceBook or PM me for more details 0 747 32 747 33 No pressure or obligation.
