I could do with getting horse to a few different venues to flat school. He is quite happy to SJ and XC anywhere, but take him to DR/ flatwork and he gets quite tense, and is a big worrier. Super spooky when he doesn't have jumps to concentrate on. So we need to see lots of places. It isn't a case of entering lots of DR comps, as he isn't bothered by it being a competition (neither am I), the white boards etc, he just seems to really worry when he is doing flatwork somewhere new. I genuinely believe it will be fairly easily resolved with a few no-stress outings to work on the flat in different arenas. So... where do you all suggest?

So far on my list of places to hire:

Netley Hall
Berriewood (though have been there already and he settled better second time)
Prescott is VERY expensive

Anywhere else? Alternatively, anyone who has a small yard/ horses at home with an arena who would like to earn a bit of money, it doesn't need to be a huge show centre, willing to go anywhere. It's all good experience for him.

Thanks, will share my Malt Loaf with any suggestors ;)

Not sure whereabouts in shropshire you are / how far you're willing to travel! But there is also Bow House near Bishop's Castle, I know Manorfields near Bayston Hill do arena hire but haven't hired them myself. There's Radfords Equestrian (Llanymynech), Tedsmore near Oswestry, and Tushingham arena near Whitchurch. I'm sure there are more, will have a bit of a think... x

Hadn't thought about Radfords, thanks. They are about 45 mins away so do-able. Bishops Castle a bit too far I think, and Tushingham too far in the other direction probably but worth bearing in mind. Especially as they have an indoor that is quite spooky! Also hadn't thought about Manorfields, thanks.

Walford is reasonable and so is Radfords at Llanymynech. There is also Weavers at Market Drayton or lloyds Farm at Hales (other side of market Drayton) has a lovely big and bright indoor arena. Sarah Parker on the way to Whitchurch has a good indoor arena and Siddells equestrian has a good outdoor arena. Will Post again if I think of any more.

Thanks guys. Hales, Mkt Drayton and Whitchurch are too far really, but thanks anyway (though I have hired the arena at Hales before, when I was closer, and it is incredible!). What about anything Bridgnorth way? That's only 10 miles or so from the yard so perfect do-able.

Prescott is too expensive, £30 for half an hour I think or something like that. I will investigate Walford. Was also wondering if Valley View (Buildwas/ Ironbridge way) have an arena they hire out?

VV hires theirs out £15 an hour I think. Sometimes they have the dressage boards out too (I'm no longer there).
Our yard do too but we don't have lights - nr Shifnal at the Hem.
Kingswood?
Berriewood?
Chorley Equestrian definitely do and their arena is quite elevated so probably be good practice. I hired it once and the Hunt went past!!!

Thanks jnb. I've booked to use VV tomorrow. Have been to Berriewood a couple of times (for SJ and DR), he hates their indoor but does settle eventually. If I go somewhere a couple of times then he is always OK second/ third time, but needs to learn to work sensibly first time so I think visits to lots of new places is in order. So VV tomorrow then I might go somewhere else the week after. Yours would be quite easy to get to so could maybe hire yours at some point, as well as Chorley (which wouldn't be too far a drive either). I don't mind whether places are huge, tiny, whatever, it's all just practise so that he learns doing flatwork away from home is nothing to be worried about.

If the hunt went past I think we'd be over the fence and joining them LMAO!!

On a different note, I didn't know there was a yard at the Hem!
