Looking for advice - I have a 20x40 arena, currently lit by 4 300w sodium lights on telegraph poles. These are very expensive to run and one has just broken.

I am looking to upgrade to LED's - What watt would I need to get and how many units would I need?

Its roughly half the power for LED floodlights, so a 150W floodlight would replace a 300W HPS fitting.

There may be some interesting info here http://sportslightinguk.co.uk/menage-lighting.htm

I think you may have got away with minimal light if 4 HPS covered a 40 x 20 arena. I would try 4 LED floods at 150W with a view to adding more if necessary. The LEDS will give a much cleaner white light, so will give you a very different tone to the illumiation, not just power related.

One tip is dont buy cheap LED fittings, they will fail. Buy them from a UK supplier with a guarantee.

We have 6 100W LEDs in our 24 x 48 metre arena. 3 down each long side on the dressage markers. Very bright and no shadowed arenas.
