We’ve recently put in a 25 x 45 arena in the field at the back of the house. We had to jump through lots of hoops with BNG etc. The planning conditions state that we need to have written permission from the council in order to be able to use lights. We’ve sent them details of the lights we were hoping to use - low spill, bat-friendly - but they’ve come back querying the way they’d be mounted (the company suggested poles around the arena) and querying lighting at all as we’re in a higher value landscape area. Has anyone had success in getting lighting through planning? Are there any workarounds? This would be for personal use so they’d only be used for an hour or so a maximum of 3-4 times a week. Ironically, although the council seem concerned about light pollution, virtually every farm around here has blazingly bright security lights on 24/7 which seem to be ok?
