I'm thinking about installing some mirrors in my arena, on my trainer's advice - and having looked at the prices of actual arena mirror companies I can see that I'm going to have to look at more inventive options!

My arena is 25x50m, post and rail. I think depending on the cost I really want to have long mirrors at one end at on the long side, and maybe one on the center line too. Mainly need them for checking straightness and working on lateral moves - if it was cheap though I'd look at doing more.

I've seen on eBay that you can buy sheets of non-shatter acrylic mirror - but that's as far as I've got!

So - who's installed their own on a budget? How did you do it and how much did it cost? Pictures welcome..! And also what size do you think is best?

Amongst the general debris I found when I moved in here were some mirrored floor-to-ceiling wardrobe doors. I reckon they are going to make fab arena mirrors.

I've seen that Wickes sells sliding mirror doors for wardrobes, they're big (2m x 0.3m ish) and are shatterproof. But they are £50 each - but then they are rigid already whereas sheets of acrylic would need to be backed on something...

I'd have been woried about the glass until I found these doors, the are 8' 4' and very heavy and have a nylon mesh type material on the back. One of them has shattered and all the glass is still glued to the backing. Even after the door has been carried around the yard a few times. Local to me on ebay 3 doors the same size as these currently at £30 for them all . . .

Yes the Wickes ones are glass but they say that if they break they don't shatter all over the place, so must be similar to yours. Would be nice to find some cheap second hand ones though! Will look on ebay...

have you contacted a bathroom installer? The ones that fit toilets in night clubs etc. The reason I say this I got 6-9 highly polished mirrors for free which my dad had mounted and they are perfect!
