Arena surface for cheap

Hello!

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on how to get a surface down for cheap.

We still want it to be fairly decent but ideally not overly expensive as there is currently no surface at all in the school.

Unfortunately, I think you get what you pay for and surfaces aren't something to be scrimped on. Unless you get very lucky and find a decent used surface* (hen's teeth territory) you'll struggle to do it at less than retail market value.

*Recently one set of friends extended their arena at home from 20x40 to 20x60 as they're doing lots more dressage. They had a totally new surface for the whole arena but their last one was still really good. Another friend who happened to have the same surface in her arena bought the removed surface to top hers up. It was a win win but I wouldn't recommend this unless you know exactly where it's from and trust/can see it's still decent.

Is this for your current yard, or for yards you are hoping to move to? (Your thread asking about diy livery yards that you posted on Saturday)

Unfortunately as @Annagain says a decent surface won't be cheap and if you use substandard materials the surface won't last and you run the risk of problems like it becoming slippery, too deep etc which can all potentially cause injury. Depending where you live haulage can be a considerable cost - silica sand weights pretty heavy so the volume you get per load can be relatively small.
