My arena is riding quite deep with the dry weather and I wanted to know whether anyone had experience of rubber strips V's rubber chips. The surface I have is silica sand with rubber chips but I don't have enough rubber to insulate the sand from the sun or from the frost.

We have rubber chips.... also not the thickest of layers.
Although we're lucky that the base is very level and doesn't ride deep (also Silica)
In regards to frost, always make sure you level it before frost - a flat surface melts quicker than rutts in the sunshine.
In reference to rubber strips, only know of one arena with this and it gets slippy when wet - although that does not make me an expert.
Can you not get a couple of tons of rubber to top yours up?

We have got Alruba Rubber (strips) on top of silica sand. When we just had the sand on it's own it used to freeze like concrete in winter. Since we got the rubber on top, even though it went to minus 8 degrees a few times last winter it never froze so I could still ride!
