Went hat shopping today, tried some on etc, they didn't have the exact style and size I wanted, so the lady said that they would put some on order, or they may have some in already... (tried on the same brand in that size and it fits etc, but just not the exact same one, if that makes sense)

Come home and seen that Derby house have an offer on, and the hat is £25 cheaper.

Feel absoloutely awful to phone up shop and say I don't want it after their help, but at the same time £25 is a lot when things are tight!!!

What would you do?

I'd pay the shop price, they've taken the time and trouble to fit me properly with a hat I like, and ordered one in especially. Also if said shop is useful for being handy when you need something you can't wait for in the post, then I'd be keen to keep my local tack shop. Then by the time you've added on the postage costs etc it's bound to be not THAT much of a saving, especially as the delivery will arrive at the one moment you're not in, they'll leave a card you'll waste time phoning to rearrange delivery or you'll travel to the other side of town (costing a bomb in fuel as it's rush hour, aside from my time) and get it from the parcel co....

However, as I hand over my £100 for the hat I might say 'were you aware that Derby House have the hat at £75 online?' because it's a big difference and leave it to them to see if they want to offer a reduction.

I did something along the lines of that with a rug i wanted and then the shop matched the internet price :-)

Good plan! Then you give them the opportunity to match the price! I'm all in favour of saving moolah, but it's even better if you can do it and support your local tack shop! Especially in this current climate (that makes me feel clever saying that lol) xx

Have you talked to the shop to see if they will match internet price? I'm sure most places would

Coffee Bean, on the basis that you have a derby house store fairly locally, I'd call into the shop ASAP, and tell them that you have seen the hat £25 cheaper. Tell her that you really appreciate the service she gave you so you don't just want to get it from derby house and drop her in it but ask if she will price match, or drop discount the hat a bit.

Most shops can afford to knock 10% ish off so if she offers you a discount stick with her for her service and convenience.

Which shop is this? You are in a similar area to me and I need a new hat soon so would be interested in knowing where is good at fitting.
