Lovely Northamptonshire again!

So, following recommendations on here, I bought a pair of Mark Todd high-waisted ladies' breeches with full seat from Equestrian Clearance for a good price.
As some of you know, I'm still recovering from major knee op, so 'stickyness' of said breeches is rather necessary for my confidence at the moment (dire warnings from surgeon about what will happen to my still-knitting-onto-bone new ACL if I fall off and pull/twist it have had a major effect...!)
Breeches arrived, look lovely, gorgeous brown, different fabric on seat. Perfect sizing.
Unfortunately, I rode in them for 5 mins and realised immediately that the fabric, which I'd assumed would be like the faux-suede stuff on Cavallos, Pikeurs, RTS-bentex, etc (all of which I have) and would be STICKY. Oh no, it's really slippery, utter nightmare. No way can I ride in these, I'm better in plain cotton cheapo ones which I already have. I got off after 5 mins because they're so slippery...
I'm not getting any joy asking for a refund, am being told that the 'full seat' only means they're not seamed down the inside leg, for comfort, has nothing to do with stickyness.
Umm, surely if that was the case the full seat would be in the same fabric as the rest of the breeches? What's the point of using a different fabric then? Surely the point of breeches and jodhs is that they don't have this seam, that's a design essential?!
Does anyone else have full-seat breeches with diff fabric which is slippery, or would you expect it to be stickier, to justify the price increase because of the different fabric?
Help pls!
Apologies for long-winded essay, macchiato (the drink, not the horse, i'd keep him for myself!) and choc chip cookies if you made it this far... ;)

Oh no :(

I have brought from Equestrian Clearance before and they usually send a slip with the package for returns, there is a not as expected option on the form, did you not get one of these????

What a pain :(

Difficult one -full seat could just mean leather covered, which wouldn't be sticky bum.

You would be able to return if unused, so slight hitch there

What is the fabric and could you use a sticky product like Effax sticky er stuff on a deodorant type stick...

yes, but my old Pikeur comp breeches are leather seated, and they're sticky (even when soaking wet).
the No Return policy is because i've worn them, but as i've said to them, I couldn't know they were slippery until I rode in them... :( :( :(
the fabric is a microfibre & lycra mix that looks like faux suede. i don't want to have to try to sticky-them-up every time I ride... :(

umm, I don't know what to do with the ones you bought, but if you want really sticky ones, have a look at Caldene Belgrade breeches - they have a pimple rubbery seat and hold onto anything;)
The only downside is they don't last very well.

why on earth would anyone want slippybum breeches as opposed to stickybum??

i would complain to Mark Todd if you aren't getting anywhere with distributor- i know they are obliged to do anything as manufacturer but they may do?

I shouldn't say this, I REALLY shouldn't say this.

Check them all over carefully for damaged stitching *wink wink* or loose waistband button and when you find it ring and request a return due to that.

FWIW I was on a cheap breeches buying spree and bought Caldene Belgrade from ECW in a not-very-tasteful Raspberry. They do do sensible colours at a more sensible price and the seat is sticky.

Could you roughen them up at all with one of those wiry brushes? I think they're called suede brushes. Not sure if it would make them much more sticky though, but might be worth a try if you can't send them back.

Ahh, the delightful raspberry, looking more like washed out beetroot:D had 3 pairs of them as they were £10 cheaper than other colours;)

i've got 1 of those, good idea, trouble is that i suspect this fabric won't be as strong as real suede (i.e. reversed leather) so that might destroy them, which is a bit much at £60 ish! :( :(

You was robbed - mine were £30 cheaper than the other colours:D My daughter and I each have a pair for that matching "slapped legs" look.

Something to try might be one of those real sheepskin seat savers (or fanny warmers as they're known round here). Mine doesn't slide on the saddle and I don't slide on it.

*makes mental note to dig it out before the winter*

I can't help you with the breeches other than to say send them back.

I do however have tips for sticking yourself on the horse. I bought some Gold Label Hide Food and put it on my saddle, I gave the seat a good covering and let it soak in. Did a HT the next day and by god, it didn't half stick me on. I used it when Alwaysbroke's daughter did HT on our old cob - stuck her on - and its brilliant.

A DON'T do - I used fabric conditioner the other week when I washed my jods, went for a lesson and I was quite slippy on the saddle. Wont be conditining jods again.

Have you tried washing them?

I was given two pairs of Equetech breeches, one black, one olive. I wear the black ones a lot and have found they stick to my new (to me) leather saddle, but when I recently rode in the brand new olive ones, it was like someone had been at my saddle with the Mr Sheen. After washing, they were much more secure, just like the black ones.

It's got to be worth a try.

Stick them on ebay, may get something back on them!! Such a b*gger!!

Fwiw, i really really rate the Pikeur jeany jods with full suede seat & high waist, they fit fab, really really really comfy, don't show the dirt, or absorb smelling mucking out smells!;-)) and are the stickies jods i've ever ridden in!

Expensive, but guess you can't put a price on that knee...... or look out on ebay for a pair or the sales!

Hope you get it sorted, such a pain!

Contact the manufactureres first but as others have mentioned if no joy try washing them. That somtimes helps activate the fabric more. No idea why and never had a pair of Mark Todds.

SamuelWhiskers, that is what I ride in every day, so most other breeches seem really insecure to me :) Only prob is, in this hot weather, they are too sticky with my Butet at times LOL!

I've just got new MT breeches, hope I'm not slipping and sliding around :s:

In terms of Trading Standards, think you're entitled to an exchange (not refund) as whilst they're not faulty, you have found them 'not fit for purpose' (can you tell what I have to deal with on a day to day basis?)

No worries - I've had someone who left me shaking after arguing over what we did and didn't offer what they thought was the right option so I took it upon myself to get acqauinted with retail and consumer law ;)

Have a read of this: http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/SGAknowyourrights/

and: http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/consumer_advice/consumer_law_sale_of_goods_emp.shtml

It'll entirely depend on the wording of their description on the website. So if you've been led to believe that they were a sticky bum pair (and anyone in the horsey world knows what's expected for sticky bum jods) and they're not - you might be able to get some joy with that one.

I've had MT "full seat" breeches and they were rubbish, the "suede" which is fake, doesn't cover the fabric of the breeches so that there are 2 layers, but are a single layer, hence they wore through and went bobbly very quickly. They were slippery because of the single layer.
Hope that you manage to get a refund!! I won't be buying them again :mad:

Really? Ive got a pair and think they are appalling! The pimples just rub off and youre left with a plain old pair of breeches.

I'd certainly recommend a heather moffat seat saver as well, you'll stick to that for sure! And another vote for Pikeur full seat leather jods too.

oh dear, hope you get them sorted/returned etc.

i splashed out on a pair of full seat Anky breeches (they were half price in the sale), i find they have a slippier seat than i'm used to. Used to Just Togs full Seat, Caldene, and just a jeany pair of jods with no different seat.

I keep trying to save money and buy cheaper breeches but I have not yet found a pair that are any good, tried caldene and mark todds plus a few others, I always ending up buying a pair of old faithful Pikeurs, worth the estra money! They are the only ones I really get on with :)
