I was leading a horse i rode while connie is off to the fields, and i know she doesnt perticular like White Vans.

And suprize suprize a whit rand appears Holly sees it a mile away and she starts snorting and jogging i then ask the car to slow down before it got tio near me using the hand signal.

It didnt take any Friggin notice intill Holly had reared up and swong into the middle of the road having a fit. I then made her walk calmy past it and there was an other car behind it Reveing its engine

i told them not to as she was only a baby and they continued to do it making hollyleap about and allsorts

Now she is a 16 hh horse and i am 5ft4 i made precautions i was wearing a hat , gloves and a pressure headcoller and had a whip to keep her in the side of the road. I asked them politiy to stop and they didnt. I could have had a such a accident if near the field there wasnt a grass verge we could go, while i made her stand and stop prancing around.

I am so mad, as i asked them to slow down and stop doing things.

Sorry about the rant, i am so cross, as a small amount of drivers dont tend to Have respect for horses anymore.

Thanks for reading,

Had a similar incident myself yesterday. Was out on my TB on our own. He is always more nervous on his own than in company, but is getting better & better with practice. I was on a country lane about the width of one & a half cars. Saw a white ford escort van come round the corner. The road was straight & I was wearing my high viz jacket as always so he could see me from a distance. He was doing about 50mph - didn't slow down one bit for us. My horse panicked as he went past - but fortunately not into the middle of the road. I dropped my whip trying to calm him down. Gave him the finger I'm afraid - unlike me - but I aways thank drivers for slowing down and I couldn't believe the man's ignorance. It's hard enough when you are building the confidence of a horse out on it's own - without having it smashed to pieces when this sort of thing happens - so I totally sympathise!

Thank goodness you and Holly weren't hurt. People like that shouldn't be allowed a driving licence. I think it should be made part of driving lessons that all drivers should be made aware that they HAVE to share the road with all sorts of traffic, including horses, tractors, elderly drivers etc etc and that it is important to have respect for all road users.

i had something similar happen when i moved yards! lady who dropped me off had to do it on a green oposite the yard as the yard entrance is sharp so YO and sister stood in the road to stop traffic (busy road!) as i was trying to cross with bracken who was messing around! sister stopped man in car (helped she had bikini top on and a boob job!!) no probs YO tried to stop some woman in a landrover on her side who insisted on still driving towards us! was not impressed and the woman got such a mouthful i think i shocked my self! even people waiting on side of road my sis was on where shaking there heads at this bloody woman. interesting she stopped when bracken started rearing towards her car! now bracken is brill on roads the only thing that upset her was the move so am glad shes not traumatised by this woman however she put me off putting bracken on winter grazing as our WG field are up the road! sorry for the rant but there are some tools that should not have a licence!!

yes i agree its intresting that they're a few incidents of drovers not bothering and pushing their luck with horses intill they do something like rearing..

LOL!! had another horse i was out riding very nearly sit on the bonnet of the car behind me!! the drivers face was a picture but like i pointed out to him if he hadnt been up my arse reving his engine when he could clearly see this was upsetting my horse then the horse wouldnt have gotten so close to the bonnet!!

Fortunately it is the minority of drivers who behave like this, but it only takes one. Hubby and I were out in one of our business carriages today, a Victoria. Now, driven horses generally get more respect than ridden horses, but not today. We came to a blind bend. Hubby saw a car approaching and also a car came up behind us. Hubby signalled for the car behind not to overtake, but he did. There was almost a head on collision. Luckily this horse is 1001% in traffic, but there were 4 people in one car and two in the other. What an absolute idiot the driver behind us was

what a bloody idiot!! i do find its the minority but have found by me anyway that motorbike riders are the most curtious! they always slow down miles before they get to us and go past really slow and wait till we are some way away from them before speeding up!

Oh no snapcp - that must of been pretty scary...hope you are both ok...
My horse is really good around traffic luckily but have to say I do get this sort of behaviour often where I ride out...
Unfortunately some riders dont have any consideration for drivers and I have found when I have slowed right down for horses which are riding two abreast some people dont say thank you or even aknowledge you are there so it does have a slight sting in the tail for riders that do take the time to consider traffic and appreciate slow and careful drivers...

There are definitely pillock drivers out there, but I do wonder if some simply don't understand the signals that riders are taught to give on the roads. I was told by some lady a few years ago that she was coming up behind horses who 'stuck their arms out and started waving them up and down' and asked me what the hell they were doing.

Yeah, i wonder that to.

HB yes im fine thanks and soo is Holly.

Smash i love your picture =]

Im hoping thats people will start to be more respectfull.

HB, when im on Connie she is 100% in traffic and i always say tthankyou etc.

But these signals are the same as those that car drivers used to use and should still be learnt as part of learning to drive. Vintage cars on the road still rely on these signals.
