I can't get tail bandages to stay on my guy, they are always half off when we get where we are getting. I am good at bandages having had lots of practice being a physio and people keep saying 'do it tighter' which I won't as I have gone as tight as I am willing to go.

What are the other options? I have seen some gel ones that are about £20-25, or quarter guards with tail guards?

Any other suggestions??

PS on a good note I have a saddle for him now!!

My horse sits on his tail badly and rubs hair out and nothing stays on quarter guards come off as just Velcro at top then slide down . I have a tail bag that attaches to a roller or made a loop on some rugs and it attaches to that . He doesn't always wear a rug and didn't want to keep using the roller as he travels a lot . I recently bought the avacallo. Gel bandage and must say it does what is says and doesn't move and the gel protects the tail. It was £18 which I thought was expensive but have used it 3 times now for journeys 70- 140 miles and for once don't end up picking it off lorry floor .

I was always an advocate of tail bandages and travelling boots/bandages but my horse (ex racer) travels much better without. He wears nothing on his tail, brushing boots behind and travelling boots in front. He rubbed and poo'ed in his tail loads more when in full travelling garb. Not suggesting yours would be the same but it surprised me!
