Hello HHO gurus.

Im pretty sure my horse has done something awful to himself tonight. Having a lovely normal ride and he slipped/lost his back end and was then very, very sore for a few steps. Cold hosed, buted and confined as i suspect he has proper pulled something horrible. Not hideously lame after the initial ouch, but not right, looked stiff through the fetlock. No point paying emergency call out tonight but will obviously get a vet!

My question is whats directly under my thumb - noticable hot spot, not swollen yet. Outside of the hind leg. Im thinking sdft? Not sure there is any answer that would be good at this point. And its obviously the uninsured leg.

Thanks.

Assuming nothing visibly obvious today, a chiropractor could be a great help. It's also so easy for them to 'tweak' something when they slip and then end up compensating elsewhere. McTimoney has worked wonders for my boys formally 'wonky' way of going... he actually fell right down beforehand which is dangerous for us both.

He is not just not quite right on it this morning, but no heat and no swelling at all. No reaction to being moved or poked or manipulated at all. Ive put him back out as they are pretty quiet in the field after another cold hose (cant hurt right) and will reassess later.

Hopefully just something of nothing, but will very carefully monitor and give him a bit of time off for now. Vets due in a week for vacs so if still nqr then will get it scanned and obviously if it gets worse will be called straight out.

My veteran did the exact same thing - wasn't hideously lame, no heat or swelling but obvs not right - turned out to be his deep digital tendon flexor sheath that he pulled - 1 week of bute, daily cold hosing for 2 weeks and gentle in hand walking before getting back on board worked wonders.

He recently did a 3 hour fun ride at the weekend and despite being one of the oldest horses there, he was merrily tanking off with me, throwing shapes and out running the ex racehorses etc 🤣
