Getting to the point now where I dread going down in the morning or hearing the phone ring! Today George presented me with a rusty old shoe nail stuck in his heel! God only knows where he found it from as I'm a stickler for making sure I find any shoes that are lost in the field to prevent exactly this. It's pretty sore and a bit puffy as you'd expect. I washed his whole foot, then tubbed his foot for 10 mins in a mix of warm water and hibiscrub. I then poured neat hibiscrub on the area and gave it a good scrub. I then sprayed with blue antibiotic spray. Think I have done enough for now but if any one has a useful suggestion or if anyone can think of a way I can stop him from self harming I will be everso gratefull!

Not sure on his self harming but nappys+Tape = a good clean poultice if hes in overnight.

Did it go far enough in to warrant a vet inspection?

Poor thing, Mine had an abcess after the same thing except obv was in the sole of his hoof.

You are not the only one. My TB went bonkers in the field yesterday galloping round and round then skidding to a stop at the gate then going off again bucking and broncing. He is supposed to be having a quiet time after physio. He managed to fall over on the right rein which had my heart in my mouth. Then changed to left rein and managed fine.

Amazingly his legs are fine today but I bet he's a bit sore all over. What an idiot!!

Ahhh i know how you feel, unfortunatly TB's seem to find anything to cut themselves or injure themselves on and with their paper skin i think any cuts and injuries always appear much worse!
have to be honest though...i wouldnt swop my boy for the world.
hope things get better soon xx

7/8TB just as bad, 4 weeks ago spun in a panic just out of the yard, twisted the shoe, bruised the white line, shoe off and poulticed for a week, a further week to come right, shoe back on and into second week of coming back into work. Missed camp, missed local ODE. missed SJ last week and the week before all this happened missed Area 21 qualifier because of the bl##/y lorry.
Horses eh?

My TBX was always fine...it was my WB that was accident prone in fact I think suisidal might be a better description...I am now an expert in nearly every type of cut on every part of the body (actually apart from sole of the foot!)...most ligament injuries too! I now have a chunky Irish somethingorother!!!

kinglouis- I know how you feel!! My current horse, 4 yr old KWPN, is the most accident prone horse I have ever met, I have had him since May and he has been cast twice 2nd time brusing his SFT and has been off for 6 weeks!! And everytime I go down the yard there is a new cut or bite from him winding the horse next door up bloody wimpy warmblood :(

Yeah, i nearly cried when i went down the yard this morning, my tb's been off work for 3months due to back and leg problems. Went down and guess what he's stiff in his rump. After just getting right for riding, think he may have slipped over or something running round. Never mind i can wait 3 months for my next ride!

yep my warmblood (holstein) is the same he is so agrevating to other horses, wanting to play all the time. Every day he comes in with big bite marks or cuts. Once, one of the other horses bit right though the side of his lip/mouth, It was awful. He has also had an injured eye etc. Its a nightmare. At the moment he has a massive bite on his neck 9amonst other) and you can see the teeth marks. Lots of these warmbloods seem to be the same. I still love him though.
