My farrier was supposed to come about 4 days ago. But cancelled as he is so busy, and gave me an appointment for 8:30am this morning, as he 'knew' he could make it.
Ellis lost a shoe days ago, and is desperate!!!! I started work early this morning so that I could be done by then. Then I get a text half an hr ago saying he's had to go to a very large client that I'm not going to name, and that he will call me later

God knows what that means, but knowing him, it means he's not coming!
He is 'works' farrier, but he has always done my horses as a bit of a favour. But this is taking the plss now! My money is as good as anyone elses. As far as I am concerned, my horses welfare is at stake, and it's just not on!!!!!
Why do we take so much cr@p from farriers? If you make an appointment, then you turn up. Simple. When it's something as important as a horses feet, it should be even more important to turn up as arranged!
I am getting a new farrier, that much I do know. But Ellis NEEDS doing today. And if he does try and get out of it, I'm going to box up my horse, and go to his house, then charge him £40 for transporting! I am SO angry - Can you tell?

Haha - yes we can, and rightly so!
My farrier (and now i'm boasting) is actually very good xD
There are some good ones out there, sounds like you got the short straw!
Hope you get sorted soon.

I have to say that my farrier is very good - always appears, roughly on time and does the job. Downside is he doesn't have the easiest personality in the world to get on with and he charges a bl**dy fortune! Good luck with getting your horsey sorted out!

i've been through 3 farriers since november and finally got one who turns up when he says he will (and he's friendly and great with both my horses even though ones an arse to shoe)

it is SO frustrating when they cancel and even more so when they just leave you standing there with your horse and don't even bother calling to cancel.

Time for you to find a new one i reckon.

Oh I will get a new one, no worries.
What annoys me most is that I went out lastnight to specifically get the money out for him, started work stupidly early in order to be finished in time for him, and he does this to me.
I text him half hr ago, no reply, so have just called him. He says he is coming and hasn't just cancelled (thanks for letting me know!) and hopes to be with me at midday. He says he was seeing how the day panned out. Gee thanks so much for leaving me dangling mr farrier!

Just finished this situation myself. Very similar to you, it was the boss's farrier, and I just tagged on. But he's a large yard type farrier, won't shoe in gateways (not that I ask him to), likes to be undercover, not really interested in small scale owners. I had the new farrier come out yesterday afternoon. Bang on time, and what a bonus, he's cheaper. He's also more local so when shoes come off (one pony is always pulling off his off front) it will get put back on quicker too. Go for it!

Every time I read one of these I am so thankful that ours is not only a good farrier, but also reliable and has now even taken to ringing up to say he will be an hour late, will that be ok? (if he is going to be late that is). I do realise how lucky we are.
