Does anyone know what type of bit Nick Skelton used on Arko? Looks like some kind of butterfly flip or kimblewick, also does anyone know where I can get one?
It is a myler kimblewick. I have one for Jenny but it is extremely difficult to get one in this country in sizes suitable for horses as most stockists are only able to get them up to a 5". Apparently only children on ponies would want to ride in a kimblewick according to myler.
It is possible to get the bigger sizes but they have to be imported from the US. I managed to get mine via Gill's Bit Bank after discussing it with them at length at Bramham and then chivvying them a lot to get them to order it. I don't think Gill's Bit Bank is still in existance so I don't know who could get you one now - assuming you want one in a horse-size.
Saying that - I've found it to be a fantastic bit and jenny goes fantastically in it but I suppose it depends on the horse.
Hm - those have both got a much higher port than mine. I've got the low ported comfort mouthpiece. Maybe its only with that mouthpiece thats more difficult to get hold of - or more possibly they are now stocking more 5 1/2s because they've found there is a demand for them - it was about 3-4 years ago that I was trying to get hold of mine.
This is the mouthpiece I have http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=2233&cat=2&scats=50,19
If you use the Myler eggbutt with hooks and attach a curb chain, that would make the bit similar to a Kimblewick, then you could have any mouth piece you wanted
