Poor daughter came off a pony at the weekend (not her own) and collided with a wooden jump wing. She has 17 stitches in her cheek

. Her face is so swollen up her eye is completely shut and you can't even see her eye lashes. Poor little thing looks like she has done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.

Anyway I know Arnica is good for bruising so I have got her some of that - there was a choice between 6c and 30c, but I don't know the difference, so I got her the 6c one. Is there anything else anyone would recommend? She is on industrial quantities of Nurofen and antobiotics as well, but any ideas for something to reduce the swelling that has worked for you?

Thanks!

Your poor daughter, arnica is really good for bruising, so keep using it. I used it when I fell off a train (don't ask...)

Hope she feels better soon.

I'd have gone for the stronger Arnica, but either will work as well. It goes up to 60c if you get it on prescription so it won't do here any harm! Don't forget you can get arnica cream/gel aswell to rub on which 'll help them go a bit quicker.

Hope she's not feeling to poorly, poor thing x

I have witch hazel and arnica gel for things like that (Gold Label stuff), it's fab. Nice and cooling and it also enables you to give the area a massage which will help. I've been using it recently to massage my horse's filled legs (not allowed to walk her) and I'm sure it's helped (either the massaging or the arnica or both!) I use it on me too.
I hope your daughter recovers soon!

A few years ago I was riding back up the track to the farm, when a van came down the road. I stopped in the widest part to let the van past (which happened to be by the gate) I hadnt realised the YO had put one of the stallions out and my horse was a mare. Stallion lunged over gate and went for my mare but got my leg instead and would not let go. You can probs imagine the size on the tissue damage/lump and bruising!

I used something called Lasonil to help reduce swelling and bruising (is supposed to improve blood supply)

Also lots of good old fashioned frozen peas/ice!!!!

Hope your daughter recovers quickly!

Will using more of the 6c one be like using a stronger version (like 30c) or doesn't it work like that? At the moment putting anything on her skin directly is a non-starter as she won't let anyone within 2 feet of it as it is so sore, but i guess perhaps later on. Thank you.

You really mustn't put arnica on any broken skin, so that is probably a great thing to wait a while before putting the arnica gel or cream on. Just in case it manages to get in the actual wound somehow.

With regards to the tablets, might be worth giving a homeopathic practitioner a call, just to check. As with some homeopathic remedies, actually sometimes less is more - but I don't know why! Maybe there is the suppliers details on the jar who you could phone.

Whatever the case re the arnica tablets I hope that your daughter continues to make a full recovery and wasn't too traumatised by her nasty fall.

As already said do not put Arnica directly onto broken skin.

Giving more of the 6c will not make it 30c. Also only give one tablet at a time if you give 2 tablets at once they will only count as one!! If there is 5min between each tablet then it will count as another tablet.
I would personnaly gone for 200c or 10M (which you struggle to get in shops). Also as skin cut I would use Staphisagria to get skin to knit back together quicker also Aconite for shock would be very useful.
I would probably give her a tablet every half hour or as & when she needs one. You can not over dose so don't worry about that.
Hypericum & Calendula also aid healing & help nerve endings.

when she has the stiches out witch hazel and arnica rubbed on it. Be warned though that it will hurt like hell if you get it in a cut.
And untill then the good old fashioned ice pack. she can hold it on herself so she doesnt put too much pressure on
