I posted the other week that 2 of mums dogs (Buffy the staff x and Willow the BT) attacked Fudge the JRT, well apparently they have done it again, quite badly.

Mum was pissed so I don't think she did very well getting them off her.

Anyway she sorted it out eventually and then Dad came home later and kicked Buffy!!

I feel like I should offer to take Fudge but 2 dogs is well enough for our little house.

Do you think they will sort it out?? Buffy is a very powerful dog and I'm worried she could do some serious damage.

Once they've started ganging up there is usually no going back I'm afraid and the wisest course would be to separate them immediately and re home the aggressive one (there is usually one of them that is the instigator, the other just follows on!) As one is a Staff I wouldn't hold out any hope it is going to get better until she/he has killed the smaller dog and if it happened here, the Staff would not get a second chance I'm afraid; they are great as one and only dogs but tend to be very jealous of other dogs and should never be left with them on their own. There have been so many sad stories of what can happen in those circumstances. It sounds as if Fudge has got off lightly but it won't have done her nerves any good and you should watch her for any signs of shock.
Would it not be possible for you to have Fudge until one or the other is found another home, it shouldn't be for long?
 
No way would mum ever ever in a million years re-home Buffy or Willow so thats not really an option. Fudge has pestered Buffy a lot, she bites her legs all the time and snarles at her, trying to take her on I think

I could take Fudge a guess... but I don't know how to bring it up with OH?? Alternatively she could be re-homed..... she's the littlest/cutest/youngest one so might be easier?

It's my fault really, my ex got Fudge just as we were splitting up but he has a rottie and lets them roam around on a lane that is actually a road - I'm convinced she would have been eaten or run over by now if i'd left her there.

Agree with MFH...once bitches start to fight its notoriousley hard to sort out....esp as the other 2 seem to be attacking as a pack....the little one would stand no chance if no one was around to interven....they could certainly injure her or even kill her

if you are ok to sort it when they are supervised.....u could manage...but it may be worth crating the little one when not supervised just incase....I have experienced many a case where owners have returned home to a dead dog...after a dog fight

I have a J.r.t rescue bitch in as she and the other bitch in the household (sbt x terrier) turned on the 3rd bitch and nearly killed her

Apparently the J.r.t was the instigator...she has been ok here...but my dogs are no match for her...lol

It's all so horrible!!! Do you think i should take Fudge?? I don't have a lot of love for her but she's ok i guess, my dad is quite attached to her so he might not like her being taken away.... maybe i'll swap him for Alf!

Not neccesarily...if bitches are going to fight...they will do it regardless...its different to dogs who are more likely to fight when not castrated.
 
SBT's are known to be dog aggressive it is natural for their breed and can happen at any time from pup to say 6yo. You always need to be able to separate them all if need be. I have 4 and am prepared to have them all kept separately if it comes to it and I would say it will only get worse if its already been happening. It is known for Stafford fights in the home while owners are out to be fatal unfortunately.

I would not necessarily blame the staffy, little dogs can be a pain, but would agree that they must be separated or Fudge may be killed. We had a Lancs heeler who was horrible to my GSD, she constantly nipped her and went for her, marking her on more than one occasion. Eventually the GSD lost her cool and had a go back, she picked up and shook the heeler. Luckily I got her off her quite quickly and little one was only very badly bruised and a couple of little bites. From this day on we never let them together, it was just not worth the risk. I could never have parted with either dog but could never have lived with myself had Chaka killed the little one, and it would probably have happpened. It taught my kids to keep doors shut, and we had a cage to put the heeler in if I felt there was a likelihood of them getting together, e.g. a house full of visitors.

Sorry not to be more positive but really do think they must be kept apart from now on.
 
That sounds exactly like what is happening with mums lot.

They are fine 99% of the time. It seems to be when they are all excited that it happens.

The saying is horrid but it's very true: dogs fight for breeding rights, and bitches fight for breathing rights. If your mum is determined to keep them both, it sounds like a behaviourist specialising in aggression might be the best bet.

Has this rivalry emerged all of a sudden or has one dog reached maturity and is now challenging the status of the elder? Does your mum treat all the dogs the same?
