Hiya Guys,

Just needed to vent my anger really! So last night I get up the yard to ride my girl, walked to the field and my first reactions were that the horses had broke through the fencing and got into the field joining onto our main field.. But one of the people I share the field with had opened the gate and let the horses have free roam of both fields, now the grass in there literally comes up to my thigh!!!! My horse is fat enough and im trying to get the weight off her which this person knows, ive also got a show on sunday and I dont want my horse wearing a muzzle 24/7 from now on because it can rub her face if I leave it on too long and I wouldnt want her to wear it all the time.

I dont know how stupid/cruel some people can get especially this time of year when the risks for grass sickness/lami are very high and allowing them to graze on such long lush grass!! Theres two ponies in with my one and they are fat as horses, im so surprised they havent got lami yet..

This person I share the field with is one of those who cant be told anything, but my plan of action tonight is to fence my girl in the small paddock out of that long grass.. But im seriously concerned about the other two ponys, one is a native who WILL eat himself into a grave. What can I do...??

not much about hte other ponies just do whats best for yours and hope she comes to her senses, perhaps just talk generally about why you're fencing yours in e.g risk of lami etc and maybe she'll take the hint.

Shut gate. Padlock gate. Hide key (and self).

maybe the woman wanted her horse to have this lush grass - in which case arrange for her horse to go out into the long grass field and leave your horses in the short grass field - her horse will still have sight of the other horses even if it's on it's own in the field

If you have a yard manager/owner, tell them you are worried that the horses will get colic/lami.

Otherwise, speak to the owners of the other horses at risk, and see if you can persuade them to talk to her too.

It is horrible when you get one know it all who thinks they know best, but really hasn't got a clue - there is one at every yard - but this is putting your horses life at risk. You really need to be firm on this one!

Get the YO to top the field maybe it wont be so attractive then. I hope she's limiting the amount of time her ponies are spending on there? Mine is in really long grass at moment but I'm strip grazing and very strict about the amount of time she's on there otherwise she'd be like a beached whale.

Speak to your YO - surely they manage this sort of thing??

Amymay, if I had a YO I would... The situation is very difficult as where the horses are is only a temporary thing for me until I pass my driving test. The place they are at has recently been brought to build a housing estate on, the place is abit run down and neglected but is safe enough.. There are no other liveries and no YO, basically we have free run of what used to be a very nice yard.. until any demolition/building work starts. Which suits me fine as my horse is right by me and I can attend to her everyday.

Im just concerned about these ponies health..

BTW these ponies are out 24/7 gorging on the long grass, my mare is in with them now but she has had a grazing muzzle on allnight and allday which isnt ideal.. I will be moving her when i finish work in a min

Would she be interested in knowing who much the vet bills will be if her ponies get sick?? Perhaps you could enlighten her before its too late. Maybe make up a 'deeds to your house' amount sort of thing

Don't worry, can't you lock yours in old field?

Also if the grass is old long and seeded it doesn't carry as much risk as short fresh spring growth!
