Ok so it's our boy's big show coming up in less than 4 weeks....and we have no saddle!

Have now tried over 6 saddles on him and cannot get ANY that fit him. It's a nightmare. In short of getting a made to measure one [which don't want to do ideally, last resort! Won't be made in time anyway], I'm at a loss of finding one that fits him.

Anyone know of any good places that sell or know any good specific saddles to look for? I need a used show saddle [possibly a worker if needs be, but ideally just straight show saddle], similar to an Ideal Ramsey or anything like that really! Must be brown for showing purposes too, suede or leather. And very VERY wide as for low withered, very wide, show cob.
All one's purchased so far have been Wide and Extra Wide, and STILL have been too small for him.

Have tried all the obvious places - Ebay, Saddles Direct, Horse Quest, Local tack shops, put adverts up myself both online and locally, etc.

In short of running one over with a truck, I'm at a loss of finding one wide enough so far! lol.

Ideal H&C tree comes in XXXW if necessary, or their FWB tree is an even flatter shape front to back if there is no shape there whatsoever. Now getting one in under a month may be more tricky!

why dont you be cheeky and contact Lyn Russell? as she often sells tack and a show saddle for cobs would be right up her street? think she is in Sussex - often advertises tack on HQ so i can't see the harm in giving her a call...

Otherwise I can recommend my saddler (master saddler) who does make bespoke saddles - she is Surrey based - Star Saddles

sorry for being dim....do they come in show saddles or are they GP's?

The standard wide range is here http://www.idealsaddle.com/catalogue/category/3, doesn't include the show saddles but I can't see they would have a problem making up the saddle you wanted on the tree required. I've got the H&C in the Jessica dressage saddle which I believe wasn't a standard model then (several years ago) but seems to be now. Also look on Tackquest, lots of showing people seem to sell saddles on there so you might find what you need.

I was at my local saddlers (Woolcroft Equine- March Fisher is a fab saddler) in Wisbech at the weekend, checking out these saddles and it is possible to get a lovely Ideal show saddle on a very wide tree with a range of fittings for wide horses. You shouldn't have a problems if you are thinking of getting a new one.

perhqps your chunky monkey could drop a bit of weight? is he extremely wide or just well padded? and if he has that large roll of fat just behind the shoulder he will push any saddle back!

my friend hade 2 xxx big cobs we hade a very wide gallop saddle on one realy comfy to ride in and on the mare a x wide ivhorse saddle with a air pump action to let it wider in the pannels that was brown they were the fattest cobs id ever seen to the point that some one reported her to the ilph and they warned her to get them on a diet or be prosecuted for overfeeding

Try Fylde Saddlery, they do a great range of saddles , they do mailorder and they can adjust the width. The owner Peter Wilkinson desiengs the saddles for Ideal. Thay are very helpfull if you ring up.

He's pure muscle, not overweight for the record...nicknamed the sherman tank lol. He's in full work and does both workers and riddens, as well as hunting atm, so can't afford him being overweight with all that stress. No podge, or fat pads, or 'extra' baggage. He is just a HW cob and built that wide unfortunately!

Thankyou for the suggestions...shall google them and have a look!

Have you looked at Fylde saddles - they seem to be popular with very wide natives (have been doing some research on the subject) and they are a showing make (there seem to be loads of second hand ones on horsequest too).
