Just had a text off my dad to say the young fell colt in the next field to mine has got into my horses field over post and rail fencing and covered my mare. Now I am not too sure if she is in season or not and I don't know all of the information as of yet but where should i go from here ?

Any advice would be very helpful ..
Thanks

If he actually covered her then she probably is in season, otherwise he would more likely have got a boot in the face from her.
As above ring your vet as they can inject(like morning after pill for horses)but I am unsure of when this needs to be done.

Would agree with having the injection, similar thing happened to a friend of mine, nobody told her the colt got out, surprise little foal arrived.

Thank you . Would it be in my right to ask for the colt owner to pay for the injection as it is her horse that got out ?

Have you spoken to the fell's owners? Just wondered what their response was?

We had a similar situation in the village where I keep the horses where some travellers horses got out and covered a mare - I think the owner sued the travellers under some duty of care ruling in court!

Yes I would ask them to pay

We all know accidents happen, but we are still prepared to pay for them. Talk to your vet and get a quote and just mention something to the owner in case they would prefer to use their own x

No I have not yet . I have just got a text off my Dad and waiting on a reply.I am suprised that he tired it as the gelding in the field with my mare is very protective over her. When I get more information on what happened I will have to look at my options. It was the gelding owner that found the fell in our field so she may know more.

I would get full details and if you are a member of BHS might be worth speaking to their free legal advice line and they should tell you where you stand in the eyes of the law. Or see if the fell's owner are willing to pay but you have every right to ask to use your own vet.
