hey,

i have a 6year old cob gelding and he has been put out with 3 mares but he has become very clingy to them and will not leave them when i want to bring him in, he will rear, try to charge and just stop flat so i can't move him.

any advice would be much appriciated.xx

Ok, I will probably get shot down for this but firstly I would suggest using a chifney or bridle to lead him in. This will safeguard you and the other horses if he is to rear. It will also give you more control.

Secondly perhaps carry a stick, you can then tap him when he stops to try and get him to move on.

Is there any way that you can separate him? Some horses are just clingy and only time, determination and practice will help you get him out of this.

Good luck.

see i have him ina chifney but he still does not respect that he will give it whirl, io am just worried because my mum handles him and she is only small and she has before let him go with a chifney but i dont want either of them to get hurt,

and there is nowhere i can put him as i don't get on with people who ownt he other geldings up the yard due to the way they treat them i don't trust them with him.

oh dear - it doesn't sound ideal. What about trying feed and treats. Is this a normal thing or is it because the mares are in season?

it's only around this sort of time in the year i think i will just have to continue with the chifney,

thanks
