Our 11 yr 14.2 irish mare is having the worst summer yet. She has been a headshaker for a few years. We have tried nose nets, face masks, gallons of DEET, including spraying the mask prior to riding. She seems fine when we are on the roads, on wet days and a good breeze in our faces, but as soon as she is on a track or near long grass it begins. It defiantely seems to be flies that irritate her the most. My question is, has anyone used any supplements/gadgets etc that have made a REAL difference?? Any suggestions/advice very gratefully received!!

there have been lots of posts in the past about this. i answered one at huge length about the 2 headshakers i've had.
it depends what sets your mare off. you can have a blood test done to see what her allergens are, it might be worth doing this. i think if you pm k9h the company she works for does them, i have some of her AAA homeopathic stuff to try and the details about the blood tests came in with all the paperwork from the company... sorry, can't remember name of company.
if i had a headshaker now this is what i'd do.
or, talk to Prof Knottenbelt at Uni of Liverpool, a true expert on headshaking, he is absolutely brilliant, so generous with his time and expertise.

Yes. Try NAF shake relief, it has made a huge difference to my headshaker. I can now hack through the woods on long grass on a sunny day - impossible last year.

Also, I use a decongestant balm (Happinose balm) in his nostrils before riding.

This combination has really worked and has totally transformed my horse.

Thanx for your tips guys. I will try the NAF shake relief and see if that will help her. Where do you get the happinose from? Is it an equestrian product or just general? If all else fails we will look down other routes.
