Anyone have any suggestions for supplements for an arthritic dog?

He is a six year old lab, extremely energetic playful dog, but seizes up at night a bit and gets a bit wimpery. Last year he was unsound after going in water (which he adores) so we kept him out of water 90% more. This year he seems to be stiff after moderate to long walks too or ball throwing. The problem is that he is a very playful dog. Almost hyperactive if he's not had enough exercise. He lives to retrieve, always nagging with sticks or balls. To try anda get him live a quiet life will be very difficult. Poor little man, he is too young for this.

My 10 year old cavalier is hugely improved after a few months on dog glucosamine tablets from ebay.

Can I ask, are they big in size? I've been sent a trial pack of Yumove tablets but they're huge and too big for my pill popper gadget, which is the only way I can get pills into my fussy little dog.

Thank you all.

He is too young for it, really - has he been assessed by a vet and had any x-rays?

Yes, you're right. It may not be arthiritis, perhaps displacia even. We mentioned to the vet last year at his annual check that he'd had a bit of lameness, but he was ok at that point. But yes, the vet will have to be seen soon if it continues. I just thought to try him on a supplement first.

They are about 1 cm long and 4mm wide - small dogs like Jake only need half a day and he eats it as part of his breakfast, with a bit of wet food with his kibble.

My lab x staffie had a TPLO, he also has a partial cruciate tear repaired. After surgery he was a little sore, the vet said he''d definitely would get arthritis in his stifle. So far, 3 years on he hasn't but I feed raw and he is also on diatomaceous earth and virgin coconut oil which I believe all helps keep it at bay.
