Can arthritic horses cope with sloping paddocks if they are on bute ? Horse seems to have developed arthritis in shoulder and is lame when stretching forward on a slope and I am worried because haven't got any flat fields. I am not on the side of a hill though!

I would think if it was a human you would be advised to stay as active as possible so I wouldn't worry too much. The more he moves around the less stiff he will be.

We only have steep hillside fields, and my 25 y/o arthritic mare copes well so far. She has been on the hills all her life, so knows how to deal with them. She no longer gallops straight up and down them like the youngsters do, but goes across the hills, zig zagging.

If your horse is used to the hill, he will be fine.
