The vet has been up to see Chloe this lunchtime, and thinks she's lame from an abscess, compounded by the onset of arthritis (which has been made worse by her box-rest) and not helped by her bog spavins (which we had no idea about

).

He had a dig around, but her hoof is too hard at the moment to find the source of infection, so she's on a poultice and hot tubbing regime to soften the sole, which is all ok.

However, the arthritis is obviously a long-term management issue, so I was wondering what supplements you lovely folk can recommend?
The vet has suggested cortaflex, but a quick search on here as thrown up loads of alternatives and left me quite confused

Thanks guys

When Mac was diagnosed with arthritis last year, I put him on Vital Maxiflex Glucosamine. It costs £50 a tub, but am only just coming to the end of my first tub. (Lasted about 10 months, one scoop a day in his feed). He also has cider apple vinegar and cod liver oil added to his feeds, and wears a magnetic band on the affected leg, which i got from HERE .

He is a bit stiff in the mornings, but once he has been out in the field for about 10 minutes, he is fine.

I use a combination of Corta-Flx, which is the American version of Cortaflex and more affordable, and Pernamax, which is extract of Green Lipped Mussels. I have to crush these into her feed as she spits the tablets out otherwise lol.

For the first year, I got Mobifor from the vet under my insurance. Mobifor is vet-strength Superflex. I don't think it was as effective as my current combination, and if I was still entitled to claim under insurance I would ask for Newmarket Joint Supplement, which is very highly recommended.

I have tried Apple Cider Vinegar, which didn't work at all, and she didn't like it in her feed. I have also tried Superflex but it wasn't as effective as what I'm using atm, plus it's more expensive than Corta-Flx if you import it from the States (I use Equiteric on ebay).

Use your insurance though if you have it.
