My horse has just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hocks, haven't had loads of chats with the vet yet but just wondered what people with this experience have had... what do you still do with your horses?

He had steroids and went from 4/10 lame to 1/10 lame in 1 month and he's just having cartrophen atm.. he's only 10 so a bit of a shock.

Any experiences good or bad please

*Also in tack room

Hi, I'm sorry to hear this. My old horse had the same in both hocks, although the OH was worse than the NH. Steroid injections helped, tildren and we also tried Osbosph (sp?!)
I had tried all sorts of supplements, Cosequin, Hack up, Devils Claw etc, but found YuMove Joint Active with Green Lipped Musscles worked really well, although a lot of trial and error is required as each horse is so different.
One thing I want to mention is the arthritis in his hocks affected his SI, so this also needed to be medicated with steroids and he had to have regular physio/chiro treatments. He ended up just being a light hack. I think a good farrier also can make a big difference.
Wishing you the best of luck with his rehab.

One of my horses was diagnosed with mild hock arthritis last year. He was probably about 1/10 lame in them. I had them injected earlier this year and now he is working at PSG dressage. Whilst he never felt bad before he feels a lot better since he has had them done.
