So Bud has had a small egg shaped swelling on the side of his knee for well over 2 years, friends say it is a bursa where he has knocked himself, but the fluid has started to feel more solid so off we went to Oakham vets in Melton Mowbray.
After lots of (expensive) x rays etc they say that although he is only 8 he is developing arthritis from an old knock on one knee. Cant stop it growing but can slow it down with steroid injections.
The swelling went straight down within a week so very pleased, but went to ride tonight and the dam egg is back again, just as full in the same place! So now what??
The vet did mention an operation he could have, but said it was a bit extreme and to try the injections first.
It did go down a bit after I had ridden him, but now he will stand in his stable all night and I'm nervous at what I will find in the morning. Think I'll call vet am and see what the opions are.
Has anyone else had this? If so what do you think the vet will say? Really dont want his to have to have an op (soreness/no riding and costs/insurance claim!)
Thanks x
