so, bit of a tricky one, my horse threw me a couple weeks ago as I'd just got on, no stirrups or twins and decided to do a bucking bronco. Saddler was coming out anyway to get a new saddle as he's changed shape and his no longer fit him. So saddler out on the Friday after (threw me on the Wednesday), found a sore patch so physio out a week after doing lunging as had no saddle, physios came out and I mentioned that he's been messing about the past few days on the lunge and disuniting and coming up short in the back right leg. So trotted him up and lunged again (was surprisingly calmer thank god) and coming up short still and still launched into canter on one rein. ANYWAY(sorry v long😂) had seen to his back (sorest she's seen him in the past 1.5 years, even after doing a tendon and overcompensating so making one side stiff but that is another long story 🙄) anyway released his back and hunched him up and it all cracked (she said she was hoping that would happen and that will hopefully help him stretch that back leg if not it will be a vet investigation) but she says he's not the type (TB X) to gain arthritis in his back but it's not impossible, so going down the acute ulcers road and doing what I can to see if that helps and she's back out in 3 weeks after he'll of been walking out for two weeks (saddlers back out to fit a saddle next week) to see if he's deteriorated again or not. He's always been girthy since I bought him two years ago and is a big stress head, for some reason I just never thought of low grade ulcers because he never really 'kicked off', but what are your thoughts? have you had horses with symptoms for any of the conditions in the title? if so what were they/prognosis? thanks!!

I'd get some back x rays to rule out kissing spines. They often (usually?) cause ulcers too.

Thankyou! I've always been worried about KS for some reason it's always been in the back of my mind! he does have very good flexibility in his back and loves when the physio stretches him and presses under his belly to make him stretch but always a possibility! do you have any idea how much back X-rays are? he's had his leg xrayed before and for 4 pictures it was around £600 but no idea about a back!

Mine cost about £250 three years ago and I took him to the hospital. My current vet can do them on a callout and would charge about £350.

My own horse was mildly cold backed. His kissing spines were severely crowded. Not just touching, but so thick and close from when he was born that there was simply no room for them not to touch. Friend's horse was just a tiny bit lame behind but had to be operated on. What rings bells with me with yours is kicking off in the canter transition on the lunge. Is the only time mine ever did anything serious, but he kicked out sky high with the inside leg, but only on one rein.

Thankyou! that was less than I thought it was going to be! yeah I mean he does shoot off into canter and it takes him a while to come back down and start listening but I just put this down to general fizzyness as when I first bought him and he was unfit he never did it, it actually took considerate effort from me to get him going haha! as with the lunge I always put that down to him doing his DDFT in 2015, had it operated on in Jan 2016 and him just struggling to do the tight circles or anticipating pain! but who knows without investigating!
