Picked up a new rescue today, had vet check her over as I'd noticed she has old injury on front leg with enlarged knee joint & slight pigeion toe on that foot clearly as a result of the injury. Vet thinks its probably the cause of an old fracture that was never picked up or treated, it's fully healed now she's field sound & trots up fine in hand. Vet also mentioned there's definitely arthritis in that joint so recommended managing her for that... Just wondered if anyone has experience on managing arthritis in knee on a riding pony? Hoping she will keep busy as a happy hacker. She's 14 yr old, big Welsh C currently obese so will need to involve lots more exercise & lots less of the green stuff in her new routine too!!!

My Endurance pony had a knee injury before I bought him. I kept him on a joint supplement ,kept his weight down and exercised him.

He was 10 when I bought him and had a successful endurance career, including the 100 miles over Exmoor (Golden Horse Shoe) He stopped competing at the age of 26 and he was never vetted out for lameness.

The combination of the three things above will help. Gentle exercise is very good for them.
