I'm so confused and upset right now Didn't post earlier because I didn't want to admit it to myself
2 months ago she was dignosed with Photosensitivity and given antibiotics and cow udder cream to get rid of the infections and scabs.
All was going well and then 3 days ago she had the symptoms of an abcess so my vet and I did an 'over the phone' diagnosis in which we agreed that my farrier could sort her out.
Farrier came out and said that if she had an abcess it was self resolving and no further action needed to be taken as she was sound and the hoof testing had found nothing untoward.
Tonight I went to bring her in and she was lying down in the field (unusual for Elouise) and when she got up she was as lame as I've EVER seen a horse so I got straight on the phone to the vet. Before the vet came she had become sound again (embarrasing to say the least) but my vet became concerned by her obvious pain and gave her 3 injections She is on 2 bute a day until Monday when the vet will come out to her again
Vet seems to think she may be arthritic
Help me out please guys with all this. My head is spinning

The only sure way to find out if your horse is arthritic is with x-rays. From the sounds of it, its more of an injury type of lameness rather than arthritic.

My horse has bone spavin and side bone and both were easily treated with appropriate trimming and shoeing, Cortaflex and I also use Reflex by Hilton Herbs.

Arthritis is easily treatable these days, so try to remain calm and positive.

Let me know how she gets on. Fingers crossed for you.

Its definatly not the end of the world. And i have to agreee.. sounds more like injury lameness as arthritis usually appears more as stiffness and unlevelness until it is in the later stages which take YEARS..

glucosamine and chrontritin(sp? I KNOW! LMAO) will help. As will omega fish oils.

Loosing weight if Eloise is carrying tomuch will help.

Hiya
Reading your case it sounds exactly the same as my old mare. She came in from the field hopping lame and then then next morning was completely sound. We had the vet out and they said they think she may have put her foot down a rabbit hole or similar, they think she either strained the joint or had bone fragments in the joint, which explains the sudden onset and offset. With my horse she did beocme sounder though she is old and is often stiff but rest did help. fingers crossed for your horse
Re the arthritis my other horse has bone spavins/arthrotis and I found that synequin actually worked better than cosequin
Sorry for such a long reply

One of mine had arthritis and it went from being low grade (at least visibly) to acute overnight - last boxing day in fact. The only thing we can think is that she had twisted/strained something on the frozen ground and somehow set it off. So it can worsen suddenly.

However hopefully yours will come right with bute and rest, and there are various injections and feed supplements. Good luck.
