Can anyone recomend a good supplement to start my 17 year old pony on please - he is becoming slightly stiff. Would like to help him out before it gets worse.
thanks

i can tell you equiflex and the glucosamine 15000 from equine america doesn't work nor did the d+h moblity or cod liver oil. when you find one that does work and doesn't cost the earth please let me know

I did lots of product research (looking for the product with the highest concentrations of glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM at a reasonable price) and found Premierflex HA by Equine Answers to be the best.
I bought it from them direct online, it cost about £40 for a large tub and their postage was quick and easy. My boy is only 4yrs but has a field injury that has caused arthritic changes in his coffin joint

It seemed to really help him, as he had become happier walking out and having his bad foot picked up etc... Sadly he was still quite lame so we have taken a further step of a steroid injection into the joint. Nevertheless I was really impressed with the product and will be restarting with it once the steroid injection has had time to do its stuff

Equiform Nutritions Easy Joint is the one I have merlin on.... its about £66 for three months supply so not extortionate

He is arthritic (badly) but stays sound. Hopefully due to this, otherwise I may be wasting my money

My 8 year old has just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her fetlock this week

Pretty much career ending

and I was wondering about the best supplements to feed to keep her comfortable.

I shall follow the rest of the thread with interest

I use Maxaflex on my old lad. He is 30 and has arthritis in both hocks. Got to the point where he was very reluctant to pick up his hinds and vet recommended retirement.
I noticed a difference within a week and now, although still alittle stiff, he is much much easier. He is also on a Danilon daily although he had been on that alone with no noticable difference. It costs 60 quid if you buy 3 months supply (buy 2 get 1 free).

hmmm, my old girl (23) is on cortaflex and pure distilled MSM but recently had a flare up of the arthritis and had to have her dosage of Danilon upped. Do you find your boy gets flare ups on the Maxaflex?

A horse I look after has arthritis in both hocks, was started on NAF Superflex back in March. This helped her and Vet has given her a course of Adequan. Shes definitely better than she was and she has now moved onto Synequin as per the vet. I think the Superflex helped. Incidentally, I was in a Saddlery and the NAF rep was there and explained the difference between the ingredients in Superflex and Cortaflex. I wasnt buying at the time so he wasnt trying to sway me atall but it was interesting!

I did have her on Synequin when she was first diagnosed and it did nothing for her! IT was so expensive that I swtiched to Cortaflex as a friend with a 37 year old mare recommended it. I also have the magnetic tendon boots for the winter.
