Hi, I have no idea how this works but here I go..
I have a 17.3hh Quarter horse with Bone chips in both of his front legs coffin joint. In his case, arthroscopic surgery is his only option. Diagnostic now is ; in his right leg he as the perfect bone chip scenario, one chip easily removed with a strong white bone. On his left leg on the other hand, he's got multiple bone chips and he has arthritis on top of it. Vets says he probably will never be a show horse again (HUS) and he probably will need injections in his left leg coffin joint so that he is comfortable from that arthritis. He always was shown in HUS,SWS and EQ. Never jumped or anything like that.
So now I'm in a place where I really want to keep my horse, even if he's a trail ride horse for the rest of his life, but I don't want to be selfish and make him suffer just so that I don't loose him. I know vet are on the cautious side and they CAN'T guaranty anything so they can't tell me if he will be pain free or not after the surgery.
Is there anyone who had a similar experience, how the recovery went, if they were sound afterward, if they were able to show again, etc.. ?
Thanks
Stéphanie
